A transmission for a vehicle includes a primary transmission arrangement, a transmission housing, an input shaft, and an output shaft. The primary transmission arrangement includes a first, second and third planetary gear set each including a first, a second and a third planetary member, said planetary members being a sun gear, a planet carrier and a ring gear. The transmission arrangement further includes five shift elements engageable in combinations of two to obtain six forward gear stages, wherein the ring gear of the first planetary gear set and the planet carrier of the second planetary gear set are operatively connected to each other, the ring gear of the second planetary gear set and the planet carrier of the third planetary gear set are operatively connected to each other, and two planetary members of the third planetary gear set are selectively connectable to each other.

A multi-speed transmission including a plurality of planetary gearsets and a plurality of selective couplers to achieve at least nine forward speed ratios is disclosed. The plurality of planetary gearsets may include a first planetary gearset, a second planetary gearset, a third planetary gearset, and a fourth planetary gearset. The plurality of selective couplers may include a number of clutches and a number of brakes. The multi-speed transmission may have four planetary gearsets and six selective couplers. The six selective couplers may include three clutches and three brakes.

The electromechanical compound transmission device includes a front transmission mechanism, a power coupling mechanism, an independent drive mechanism, and convergent planetary gearsets arranged on both sides of the power coupling mechanism. The present invention can not only implement driving, steering, and other functions of a vehicle, but also provide sufficient electric energy for a vehicle-mounted device. In other words, a series mode can be adopted to satisfy a torque output requirement, and is mainly used for low and medium-low speed driving, as well as reverse driving and climbing steep slopes; and a series-parallel mode can also be adopted to satisfy requirements of high and medium-high speed driving, and can achieve relatively high transmission efficiency and fuel economy.
