Concrete sanitary sewer pipes and manholes featuring a protective plastic liner
11686419 · 2023-06-27 ·

A prefabricated composite concrete element for use in a corrosive sewer environment. The concrete element has a hollow reinforced cast concrete portion with at least one end having connection details, a premolded corrosion resistant inner plastic liner. The plastic liner lines an interior of the hollow concrete element and the connection details to provide abutting liner faces in an assembled joint to limit exposure through said joint of said concrete portion to corrosive materials arising in said sewer environment. At least two prefabricated composite concrete elements may be assembled end to end at a joint to form a concrete sewer system. Also disclosed are a method of prefabricating such a composite concrete element.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROTECTING ONE OR MORE PIPES AGAINST CORROSION AND CORROSION-PROTECTED PIPE

A carrier pipe is protected from corrosion by being received inside a casing at a location above ground. The casing, which can be formed from a polymer, defines a gap extending around an exterior surface of the carrier pipe. In one embodiment, the gap is substantially filled with a potting material having a corrosion-resistant property. In another embodiment, a self-contained impressed current cathodic protection system is received in the gap. A pull head is installed on the carrier pipe and/or casing for pulling the pipe assembly, including carrier pipe, casing, and elements received in the gap, into an underground bore as a single unit. In some embodiments multiple pipe assemblies are pulled together into the same bore.

Graphene quantum dots are functionalized by covalently bonding a corrosion inhibitor molecule thereto. In a useful method, a corrosion inhibitor compound is blended with a graphene quantum dot-tagged corrosion inhibitor compound, and the blend is applied to a metal surface, such as the interior of a carbon steel pipe. The blend inhibits corrosion arising from contact with produced water generated by hydrocarbon recovery from one or more subterranean reservoirs. The produced water having the blend dispersed therein is irradiated with a source of light having a selected first range of wavelengths, and the luminescent emission of the graphene quantum dot-tagged corrosion inhibitor is measured at a selected second range of wavelengths, thereby providing for real-time measurement of corrosion inhibitor concentration within the pipe.

STRENGTH MEMBER FOR PIPE REINFORCEMENT

A coated tow includes a fiber bundle composed of continuous reinforcement fibers that form a flat substrate in a ribbon shape and a thermoplastic-based overcoating applied to the flat substrate to form a uni-directional tape. An extruded tape includes a plurality of cords of twisted fiber yarns each composed of continuous reinforcement fibers, a thermoplastic overcoating applied to each of the cords, and a high density polyethylene (HDPE) that encases the plurality of cords to form a uni-directional tape. The reinforcement fibers have continuous filaments aligned lengthwise along a length each of the cords. A process of producing the coated tow or extruded tape includes feeding one or more spools of continuous fiber tow under tension control, sinking the continuous fiber tow in a chemical bath, passing the wetted continuous fiber tow through one or more squeezing rollers, and passing the continuous fiber tow through an oven.

A system for transporting corrosive or erosive fluids having a flow conduit or flow equipment with a flow bore. One or more inserts (50) are disposed within the flow bore of the flow conduit or flow equipment. The insert(s) (50) include an internal structure (52) and an erosion or corrosion resistant coating (54) disposed around the internal structure. The insert(s) (50) is/are disposed inside the flow bore and provide erosion and/or corrosion resistance.

Polymeric device to protect pipe coupling

A polymeric device for protection of the connecting pipe coupling contains a stepped bushing having a medium part with an increased diameter and two lateral parts with a smaller outside diameters, which is installed between end faces of pipes with a conic thread, and connected by means of a coupling and having sealing rings made of an elastomer, which are on parts of the bushing with the small diameter. The device has an additional stepped bushing, and the first stepped bushing has a constant outside diameter and two parts with small and large internal diameters, and the second stepped bushing has a constant internal diameter and two parts with small and large diameters.

Electrofusion of pipe liners

A method of joining together liner sections within a polymer-lined pipe energises an induction coil inside the pipe to spot-heat part of a circumferential interface between the liner sections. This melts and fuses the polymer material locally. The induction coil is then moved along the interface to heat other parts of the interface successively above the melting temperature. An apparatus for performing the method has a power supply for energising the induction coil and a drive system for moving the energised induction coil relative to a body of the apparatus. The apparatus may be configured as a carriage that is movable along the pipe.

An apparatus and method for protecting an inner radial surface of a radial member of a turbomachine from corrosion are provided. The method may include shaping the inner radial surface of the radial member and a corresponding outer radial surface of a corrosion-resistant liner. The method may also include heating the radial member to increase a diameter of the inner radial surface of the radial member, and inserting at least a portion of the corrosion-resistant liner into the radial member. The method may further include attaching the corrosion-resistant liner to the inner radial surface of the radial member to thereby protect the inner radial surface of the radial member of the turbomachine from corrosion.
