A motor vehicle headlamp that includes a housing in which at least one main light source is arranged. Detachably attached to an external lens of the motor vehicle headlamp is at least one front housing, which has a light-guiding element and lamps for coupling light rays into the light-guiding element. The light rays are coupled out of the light-guiding element through an output structure. Further additional lamps that can give off light rays are arranged side by side in front of the external lens. The light rays given off by the lamps pass through the external lens and the front housing in the direction of an outside environment.

A lighting device for a motor vehicle, comprising a light source from which light is emitted during operation of the lighting device, a rod-shaped light guide which has a light entry surface on an end face for the light emitted from the light source and a light exit surface from which, during operation of the lighting device, the light which has entered through the light entry surface exits at least partially. The lighting device is set up to serve as a direction indicator, and wherein the lighting device comprises a controllable cover which is arranged at least partially in front of the light exit surface such that, during operation of the lighting device, at least a portion of the light exiting from the light exit surface enters an entry surface of the cover and exits from an exit surface of the cover.

Light-guiding optical unit for a light device of motor vehicles

The light-guiding optical unit (1) for a light device of motor vehicles comprises a light guide (2) that comprises at least one routing surface (3), and at least one light source (4) to generate light rays (10). The light-guide (2) further comprises a top surface (12) at least a part of which is constituted by the output surface (15), and a bottom surface (13) opposite the top surface (12) and fitted with a prismatic structure (16) comprising reflective surfaces (7). The routing surface (3) and the reflective surfaces (7) are mutually arranged in such a way that the routing surface (3), by means of routing by refraction on this surface (3) or reflection from this surface (3), directs light rays (10) to the prismatic structure (16) in such a way that it directly lights up only the reflective surfaces (7) with the light rays (10), the reflective surfaces (7) being configured to direct light rays (10) that have fallen onto them this way directly from the routing surface (3) to the output surface (15) in such a way that the light rays (10) can exit from the light guide (2) through the output surface (15).

Illumination Device for a Motor Vehicle

An illumination device for a motor vehicle includes at least one light source and an elongated waveguide which is delimited along the length thereof by a lateral surface. The waveguide is configured to guide light from the at least one light source along a light propagation direction in a totally reflective manner, the light propagation direction corresponding to the length of the waveguide. The light of the at least one light source can be coupled into the waveguide via a coupling surface at an end face of the waveguide, and a decoupling structure is provided in the lateral surface of the waveguide for decoupling light, which exits the waveguide via an exit region of the lateral surface along the light propagation direction, thereby overriding the total reflection condition.

ILLUMINATION SYSTEM INCLUDING LIGHTGUIDE
20170357040 · 2017-12-14 ·

Various embodiments of lightguides and illumination systems that include lightguides are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, a lightguide can include first and second light extractors (330,340) that extract light that would otherwise be confined and propagate within the lightguide along the length of the lightguide primarily by total internal reflection. The first and second light extractors can form respective first and second patterns along a length of the lightguide. Light extracted by the first light extractors can exit the lightguide primarily along a first direction (306). Light extracted by the second light extractors can exit the lightguide primarily along a second direction (308) different from the first direction. A brightness of the total light extracted by the first light extractors can be larger than a brightness of the total light extracted by the second light extractors.
