The disclosure is intended to oxidize PM deposited in a filter in a suitable manner. Provision is made for a filter of wall flow type, a temperature raising unit to raise the temperature of the filter from a downstream side thereof, an exhaust gas shut-off valve, and a controller. The controller controls a flow of exhaust gas in the filter by once fully closing the exhaust gas shut-off valve and then fully opening it when the flow rate of the exhaust gas is equal to or larger than a predetermined flow rate, so as to cause PM to move to a downstream side portion in the filter in the direction of flow of exhaust gas, and carries out regeneration processing which oxidizes the PM by using the temperature raising unit after the controller has caused the PM to move to the downstream side portion of the filter.

Gasoline particle filter temperature control

Methods and systems are provided for controlling particulate filter temperature during non-combustion conditions. In one example, a method for an engine includes responsive to a particulate filter temperature above a threshold temperature and while operating the engine with deceleration fuel shut-off (DFSO), fully closing a throttle valve configured to regulate flow of intake air to the engine, and responsive to intake manifold pressure dropping below a threshold pressure while the throttle valve is fully closed, adjusting a position of the throttle valve based on the particulate filter temperature.

An engine promoting DPF regeneration processing is provided. Catalyst activation processing and thereafter DPF regeneration processing are performed under control of a device. In the catalyst activation processing, a target temperature of exhaust at an exhaust exit of a catalyst is set to be in a first temperature region, and then the opening degree of an exhaust throttle device is controlled. In the DPF regeneration processing, the target temperature is set to be in a second temperature region. A target temperature of the exhaust at an exhaust inlet of a DPF is set to be in a third temperature region. The opening degree of the exhaust throttle device is controlled, and unburned fuel is supplied into the exhaust. The temperature regions are set to be successively higher, and a temperature difference between successive temperature regions is set to be successively lower.

A diesel engine system includes a diesel engine, an exhaust line, a particulate filter interposed in the exhaust line and an electronic control unit for controlling fuel injectors associated with cylinders of the engine. When an accumulated particulate mass in said filter reaches a predetermined threshold, a filter regeneration mode is activated, including activating post-injections of fuel by controlling said injectors, to determine a start of an automatic filter regeneration step, which is caused by an increase in temperature of exhaust gases fed to the filter. The temperature increase is sufficient to burn particulate in the filter. The post-injections of fuel are deactivated whenever a critical condition occurs for at least a first period of time, the critical condition being one in which a temperature value upstream of the filter exceeds a first threshold value. In this case, the regeneration mode is resumed following disappearance of the critical condition.

Exhaust handling systems for marine vessels and related methods

An embodiment of an exhaust handling system for a marine vessel includes a cap connected to a top end portion of an exhaust stack of the marine vessel to form an enclosure at least partially surrounding an outlet of an exhaust pipe extending through the exhaust stack. In addition, the exhaust handling system includes a collection pipe in fluid communication with the cap such that the collection pipe is to receive exhaust from the enclosure, and a coupling connected to the collection pipe that is to connect to an exhaust cleaning assembly. The exhaust cleaning system includes a tank to receive the exhaust. The cap at least partially defines a first flow path for the exhaust that extends from the enclosure to the atmosphere. The collection pipe at least partially defines a second flow path for the exhaust that extends from the enclosure to the coupling via the collection pipe.

Reforming system

A fuel reforming system includes: an engine combusting reformed gas to generate mechanical power; an intake line connected to the engine to supply the reformed gas and air to the engine; an exhaust line connected to the engine to circulate the exhaust gas discharged from the engine; a fuel reformer provided at an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) line diverging from the exhaust line; and a catalyst disposed at the exhaust line and purifying nitrogen oxide included in the exhaust gas at a front end of the fuel reformer. In particular, the fuel reformer mixes the fuel with the EGR gas which is a part of the exhaust gas and passes through the EGR line, and reforms the fuel mixed in the EGR gas.
