The present disclosure encompasses methods and systems for decontaminating polluted gas using heated volcanic rock.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR AN EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT DEVICE

Systems are provided for an exhaust gas aftertreatment device, in particular in a motor vehicle, having a catalyst accommodated in a housing which, along its length, has a first end section, a catalyst section, and a connecting section. The housing further comprising a particulate filter located downstream of the catalyst.

EXHAUST HEAT RECOVERY AND HYDROCARBON TRAPPING

Methods and systems are provided for exhaust heat recovery and hydrocarbon trapping at an exhaust bypass assembly. Exhaust gas may flow in both directions through an exhaust bypass passage and each of a HC trap and a heat exchanger coupled to the bypass passage. The HC trap may be purged with the hot exhaust and heat from the exhaust may be recovered at the heat exchanger.

Hydrocarbon Storage Optimization and Coking Prevention on an Oxidation Catalyst

An oxidation catalyst may include hydrocarbon storage material. One implementation relates to a diesel oxidation catalyst that includes a catalyst having a front zone and a rear zone and a gradient of hydrocarbon storage material on the catalyst extending from the front zone to the rear zone. The gradient of hydrocarbon storage material, may comprise a linear gradient, a step gradient, a parabolic gradient, a logarithmic gradient, or other forms thereof.

Exhaust gas purifying system

An exhaust gas purifying system includes: a NOx trapping agent (2) which adsorbs nitrogen oxide when an excess air ratio of exhaust gas is more than 1, and releases nitrogen oxide when the excess air ratio is 1 or less; a NOx purifying catalyst (13) which reduces nitrogen oxide to nitrogen; and an oxygen concentration controller which controls oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas. When the excess air ratio of the exhaust gas is more than 1, nitrogen oxide is adsorbed to the NOx trapping agent (2). When the excess air ratio of the exhaust gas is 1 or less, the oxygen concentration controller controls the oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas at an inlet of the NOx purifying catalyst between 0.8 and 1.5% by volume, so that the NOx purifying catalyst reduces nitrogen oxide released from the NOx trapping agent.
