ENGINE CYLINDER LINER WITH LINER CATCHER
20210148302 · 2021-05-20 ·

Systems and methods are provided for a cylinder liner for an engine including a catcher feature on a side surface to provide radial support and improved coolant sealing. In one example, the catcher feature may include a continuous stepped catcher extending from the cylinder liner body and a stepped tab of the engine block, the stepped catcher resting on the stepped tab. Also, a radial flange in the upper portion of the cylinder liner may be coupled to the engine block, the coupling sealed via an O-ring nestled in a groove formed in the radial flange.

Systems are provided for a cooling arrangement of an engine. In one example, a system includes a first coolant passage and a second coolant passage arranged in a cylinder bridge between directly adjacent cylinders, wherein the first coolant passage and the second coolant passage are separated from one another.

Internal combustion engine

A heat retention material cartridge fixed to a base member of a heat retention tool of a cylinder bore's bore wall for heat retention of the cylinder bore wall, which includes a thermosensitive expansion rubber, a back-side pressing member, a rectangular opening, a front-side abutting plate cooperative with the back-side pressing member for sandwiching an outer edge portion of the thermosensitive expansion rubber, and an elastic member attached member to which an elastic member is attached. A convex portion being convex toward the side of the back-side pressing member is formed in a portion of the front-side abutting plate where the outer end is not sandwiched by bendable portions. And, the outer edge portion of the thermosensitive expansion rubber is formed in such a manner that the outer end of the thermosensitive expansion rubber is positioned inside an apex of the convex portion.

In the case of using the thermosensitive expansion rubber as a rubber member of the heat retention material cartridge, even when the thermosensitive expansion rubber thermo-sensitively expands in a groove-like cooling water passage, the present invention can provide the heat retention material cartridge capable of preventing the expanding thermosensitive expansion rubber from protruding from the upper or lower side of the heat retention material cartridge.

Rough cast cylinder liner

A cylinder liner for internal combustion engines has an outer roughened surface that has particularly good adherence properties. The surface has is covered with protrusions or spines of varying shapes and sizes, which are created by spraying the mold with a coating and then casting the cylinder liner in the mold. The spines are generally worm-shaped, with a length greater than a width, and a large spacing between the spines.

The spines are generally conical or needle-shaped, with the bases being larger than the tips. The spines have an aggregate cross-sectional surface area measured at 0.2 mm from a ground cylindrical surface that is between 50-90% of the total ground cylindrical surface area, and an aggregate cross-sectional surface area measured at 0.4 mm from the ground cylindrical surface that is between 20-45% of the total ground cylindrical surface area.

Internal combustion engine cylinder liner flange with non-circular profile

Various embodiments of the invention relate to an apparatus and method for assembling a cylinder for an internal combustion engine. The cylinder includes a cylinder liner with a liner wall having an outer diameter and a flange extending radially outward from the liner wall at a superior end of the liner wall. The flange includes a fillet region adjacent to the liner wall having an inferior surface. The inferior surface has a contour defined at least partially by a non-circular profile. The contour defines a minimum diameter that is greater than or equal to an outer diameter of the liner wall. The non-circular profile is optionally defined by a slanted ellipse.
