Rocket propulsion system and method for operating a rocket propulsion system
A rocket propulsion system comprises a combustion chamber, an oxygen supply system, comprising an oxygen supply duct and being configured to supply oxygen to the combustion chamber, and a hydrogen supply system, comprising a hydrogen supply duct and being configured to supply hydrogen to the combustion chamber. An ignition unit of the propulsion system, to which at least portions of the oxygen and the hydrogen supplied to the combustion chamber can be supplied, is configured to initiate combustion of the oxygen-hydrogen mixture in the combustion chamber. The propulsion system further comprises a cooling duct extending along an inner surface of a combustion chamber wall and through which at least a portion of the oxygen supplied to the combustion chamber, at least a portion of the hydrogen supplied to the combustion chamber or a combustion gas mixture emerging from the ignition unit flows.
REGULATING VALVE WITH INTEGRATED PURGE FUNCTION
A valve includes a valve body provided with a plug, connected to an actuation system, an upstream duct, a downstream duct, and a purge duct provided with a shutter. The plug is movable in rotation about a longitudinal axis in the valve body, so that the rotation of the plug according to a first angular sector defines a flow between the upstream duct and the downstream duct, the rotation of the plug according to a second angular sector separate from the first angular sector shuts off the connection between the upstream duct and the downstream duct, and the rotation of the plug according to a third angular sector included in the second angular sector actuates the shutter so as to allow a flow from the upstream duct to the purge duct.
Integrated propulsion system for hybrid rockets
An integrated propulsion system for hybrid rockets includes an oxidizer tank, a rocket engine, a pressurization device, a pressurization device and an oxidizer pipe and valve unit. The rocket engine is disposed within the oxidizer tank partially and located on a first side of the oxidizer tank. The pressurization device is disposed, at least in part, within the oxidizer tank, is located on a second side of the oxidizer tank opposite to the first side of the oxidizer tank, and is configured to regulate an overall pressure level within the oxidizer tank. The oxidizer pipe and valve unit is connected to the oxidizer tank and the rocket engine, and is configured to control feeding of an oxidizer from the oxidizer tank into the rocket engine.
Integrated propulsion system for hybrid rockets
An integrated propulsion system for hybrid rockets includes an oxidizer tank, a rocket engine, a pressurization device, a pressurization device and an oxidizer pipe and valve unit. The rocket engine is disposed within the oxidizer tank partially and located on a first side of the oxidizer tank. The pressurization device is disposed, at least in part, within the oxidizer tank, is located on a second side of the oxidizer tank opposite to the first side of the oxidizer tank, and is configured to regulate an overall pressure level within the oxidizer tank. The oxidizer pipe and valve unit is connected to the oxidizer tank and the rocket engine, and is configured to control feeding of an oxidizer from the oxidizer tank into the rocket engine.
Small satellite propulsion system
A small satellite propulsion system using a gaseous oxidizer and a gaseous fuel as primary propellants with a liquid as a film coolant for the inner surface of the rocket motor. The gaseous fuel is also used as a pressurant for the coolant and as a cold gas propellant for attitude control system (hereinafter ACS) thrusters. The oxidizer, fuel, and coolant tanks, as well as most valves and plumbing, are integrated into a single core unit along with the rocket motor, rocket motor plumbing, and safety valves. Attitude control thrusters may be remotely located with plumbing to the fuel tank. The core unit is four inches high and less than four inches deep and wide. The small satellite propulsion system uses no pyrotechnics and no hazardous toxic materials.

A method for operating a rocket propulsion system comprises the steps of supplying oxygen to a combustion chamber, supplying hydrogen to the combustion chamber and combusting the oxygen-hydrogen mixture in the combustion chamber. The rocket propulsion system is operated alternately in a first operating mode, in which oxygen and hydrogen are supplied to the combustion chamber in a first mass mixing ratio of oxygen to hydrogen, and in a second operating mode, in which oxygen and hydrogen are supplied to the combustion chamber in a second mass mixing ratio of oxygen to hydrogen that is greater than the first mass mixing ratio.

Jet system
Provided is a jet system capable of regulating a pressure of a jet substance without using any high-pressure gas supply subsystem. In a storage section for storing therein a jet substance such as fuel or oxidizer, a pressurizing substance such as liquefied gas is stored in addition to the jet substance, to enable the jet substance to be supplied from the storage section according to pressurization from the pressurizing substance. A jet operation is performed while an internal pressure of the storage section lowered along with discharge of the jet substance therefrom is at least partially recovered by at least a part of the pressurizing substance vaporized in the storage section.
