Ignition apparatus for internal combustion engine
An ignition apparatus for internal combustion engine includes an ignition coil in which a main primary coil and an auxiliary primary coil are magnetically coupled with a secondary coil that is connected to a spark plug. In the ignition apparatus, a main ignition circuit unit controls energization of the main primary coil and performs a main ignition operation in which a spark discharge is generated in the spark plug. An energy supply circuit unit controls energization of the auxiliary primary coil and performs an energy supply operation in which a current that has the same polarity as a secondary current that flows through the secondary coil as a result of the main ignition operation is superimposed on the secondary current. The auxiliary primary coil includes a plurality of auxiliary-primary-coil portions. The energy supply circuit unit performs the energy supply operation using one or more of the plurality of auxiliary-primary-coil portions.
IGNITION DEVICE
An ignition device for an internal combustion engine that uses fuels including hydrogen. The ignition device includes an ignition coil including a primary coil and a secondary coil, a power supply device, a switching element, a spark plug, and a limiting diode. The switching element performs switching between passage and interruption of a primary current. The spark plug causes discharge at a gap, based on a high voltage induced at the secondary coil. The limiting diode includes a Zener diode that is forward-biased when oriented in a direction from the one end to the other end of the secondary coil. A breakdown voltage of the limiting diode is higher than the maximum value of an ON-state voltage obtained by multiplication of a value of a direct-current voltage applied to the primary coil by a ratio of the number of turns of the secondary coil to that of the primary coil.
AN IGNITION SYSTEM AND METHOD CONTROLLING SP ARK IGNITED COMBUSTION ENGINES
The invention relates to an improved ignition system for spark ignited combustion engines. According to the invention the voltage over a coil winding 6P on the primary side of the ignition coil is regulated to a sufficiently low voltage level during timed periods of the ignition cycle, such that at least one function out of three in total, i.e. prevention of premature spark-on-make, or spark suppression after onset of ignition, or improved frequency response between primary and secondary side of the ignition coil after end of ignition, is obtained. When applied in an inductive ignition system a differential amplifier (8) may be connected over the primary winding 6P regulating a control switch 2CS via a drive unit (9). The invention is preferably implemented in ignition systems with ion sense circuitry 5C,5R on the secondary side of the ignition coil, and implementing all three functions.

Circuit and method for coil current control
Circuits and methods to control a current in a coil are disclosed. The circuit and methods provide over-dwell protection and soft shut-down functionality to safely discharge the coil. The safe discharge of the coil is facilitated by a soft-start ramp signal that reduces the coil current gradually by controlling a switching device according. A profile of the soft-start ramp signal over time determines the gradual reduction. The profile of the soft-start ramp signal can be adjusted to set (i) an over-dwell period of the coil current, after which the coil current is shut down, and (ii) a soft shut-down period, over which the coil current is gradually reduced.
Ignition apparatus
The ignition apparatus includes: an ignition plug; a plurality of high voltage devices each configured to generate the high voltage and apply the high voltage between the first electrode and the second electrode; a leakage current detection device configured to detect a leakage current flowing between the first electrode and the second electrode; and a control device configured to control respective operations of the plurality of high voltage devices and the leakage current detection device. When the control device determines that leakage is present between the first electrode and the second electrode based on the leakage current detected by the leakage current detection device, the control device causes each of the plurality of high voltage devices to apply the high voltage between the first electrode and the second electrode at the same period.
SWITCH CONTROL CIRCUIT AND IGNITER
A switch control circuit controls a switch element connected to a primary coil of an ignition coil in accordance with an ignition signal. The switch element includes a transistor and a protection element connected between a collector and gate of the transistor. The switch control circuit uses a voltage at a gate terminal controlling the transistor or a voltage corresponding to a collector current of the transistor as a detection voltage and generates a status detection signal corresponding to a change in the detection voltage.
Discharge state detecting apparatus of internal combustion engine
Even when detecting the primary voltage of the primary coil side, without detecting the secondary voltage of the secondary coil side of high voltage, it is desired to provide a discharge state detecting apparatus of an internal combustion engine which can detect a spark discharge state with good accuracy, by reducing influences of the discharge current and the resistance component of the discharge path of the secondary coil side, which are generated in the primary voltage. A discharge state detecting apparatus of an internal combustion engine performs correction which reduces a signal component generated by the secondary current in the ignition coil from the primary voltage detected by the primary voltage detector, based on the detected secondary current, and outputs a primary voltage after correction; and determines a spark discharge state based on the primary voltage after correction.
Ignition apparatus
An ignition apparatus performs energy input control in which energy is continuously inputted to an ignition coil to enable a spark discharge in a predetermined energy input period after interrupting a primary current by an ignition switch and generating a discharge of a spark plug by a secondary current. A combustion state determination circuit determines a combustion state by comparing a combustion pressure P detected by a combustion state detector. When the combustion pressure P is smaller than a second threshold Pth2, and there is room for improving the combustion state with respect to the present energy input condition, the energy input period IGW is increased or a target secondary current I2* is increased. By compensating the condition of the energy input control in accordance with the combustion state, a target combustion state can be achieved with just enough energy consumption.
