Self-lubricating blade root/disk interface
A coating for a blade root/disk interface includes a layer of soft metal matrix, and a solid lubricant distributed through the soft metal matrix. Examples of materials include CuAl as the soft metal matrix and MoS.sub.2 as the solid lubricant, although others are also disclosed.
DOUBLE BORE BASKET
A compressor section or a turbine section of a gas turbine engine having an axis includes a drum. The compressor section or the turbine section also includes a plurality of bores extending radially inward from the drum including a first bore and a second bore. The compressor section or the turbine section also includes a first bore basket at least partially defining a first cavity such that the first bore has at least one surface located in the first cavity. The compressor section or the turbine section also includes a second bore basket at least partially defining a second cavity that is isolated from the first cavity such that the second bore has at least one surface located in the second cavity.
Toughened bond layer and method of production
According to one embodiment of this disclosure, a coating includes a plurality of elongated reinforcing materials. The coating includes a bond coat in which a first portion of a first elongated reinforcing material is embedded. The coating further includes a ceramic coat adjacent the bond coat in which a second portion of the first elongated reinforcing material is embedded.
PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING A TURBOMACHINE BLADE
A process for manufacturing a turbomachine blade of the type having at least one 3D cavity, wherein the blade is produced by a succession of depositions and selective consolidations of layers of a metal additive manufacturing powder based on an alloy of copper and nickel, the alloy including from 2% to 7% of nickel. It also relates to a turbomachine blade, wherein it is manufactured by metal additive manufacturing using the process.
Gas turbine engine blade with variable density and wide chord tip
A blade for a gas turbine engine includes a body that includes an airfoil that extends in a radial direction from a 0% span position near an airfoil base to a 100% span position at an airfoil tip. The airfoil includes a first portion near the airfoil base with a first density and includes a second portion near the airfoil tip with a second density. The second density is less than the first density. The second portion includes an increasing true chord length in the radial direction.
Staged high temperature heat exchanger
A staged high temperature heat exchanger (HEX) may comprise a first stage made from a first material and a second stage made from a second material. The first stage may comprise an inlet manifold configured to receive a flow of fluid. The second stage may comprise an outlet manifold whereby the flow of fluid exits the HEX. The first stage is configured to withstand the temperature of the flow of fluid entering the inlet manifold and configured to reduce the temperature of the flow of fluid to an intermediate temperature before the flow of fluid reaches the second stage. In various embodiments, the first material may comprise a nickel-based superalloy having at least 40% of a Ni.sub.3(Al,X) precipitate phase, X being a metallic or refractory element other than Al.
Ductile compensation layer for brittle components
Disclosed is a blade element of a turbomachine, in particular of a gas turbine, which comprises a fastening element (10) with which the blade element is arranged in a receptacle (11) of the turbomachine. in the region of the fastening element, the blade element has a core region (18) and an envelope region (19) which at least partially envelops the core region. The core region is formed from a blade base material which is more brittle than the envelope material of the envelope region, and the envelope region is formed by a coating. The envelope material is a blade base material which has been modified to achieve a higher ductility or is a pseudoelastic or superelastic material.
Rotor support system with shape memory alloy components for a gas turbine engine
A rotor support system for a gas turbine engine may generally include a bearing assembly and a load reduction member configured to be coupled between the bearing assembly and a support frame of the engine. The load reduction member may include a fuse portion configured to fail when a load transmitted through the load reduction member exceeds a predetermined load threshold. The system may also include a load recoupling member provided between the bearing assembly and the support frame. The load recoupling member may be formed from a super-elastic shape memory alloy that allows the load recoupling member to undergo recoverable deformation without failing when the fuse portion fails such that the load recoupling member maintains a mechanical connection between the bearing assembly and the support frame.
SHEATH
A sheath for a leading edge structure comprises a sheath core and a protective electroformed coating provided on an external surface of the sheath core.
METHOD TO PRODUCE VOID-FREE FERROUS & NON-FERROUS AEROSPACE STRUCTURAL CASTINGS
A method of treating a cast metal matrix, the method comprising steps of depositing a self-fluxing first layer of material on an outer surface-connected void of the cast metal matrix, depositing a second layer of material on the cast metal matrix thereby closing off the outer surface-connected void so that the outer surface-connected void is an effective internal void, and hot isostatic pressing the cast metal matrix so that the self-fluxing first layer facilitates healing the effective internal void and complete metallurgical bonding of the surfaces of the outer surface-connected void.
