A pipe or tube hanger consisting of a loop clamp combined with a blind rivet fastener which has the joint deformed to stiffen the blind rivet so it may be used as a tension member in the application. This will replace cast iron parts which have been typically used for this application. See FIG. 1. Because of air pollution many small cast iron foundries no longer operate in the United States. This novel methodology also eliminates weld joining of the two parts which requires post plating to restore cladding or galvanizing or post painting of the parts. Using this mechanical joint enables the use of pre-painted or galvanized material and allows fully finished parts to exit the automated fabricating process and go directly into shipping containers dramatically reducing handling and reducing the customers costs and making domestic manufacturing of the product competitively possible.

A press-fit connection between a high-strength component and a press-fit element is characterized by a non-circular previously made hole into which the press-fit element having a collar is inserted. Here, the collar is merely upset and pressed against a hole rim without embracing an underside of the component. Preferably, the hole rim is widened in a longitudinal direction such that a form-locking connection acting in opposition to the longitudinal direction is formed. The non-circular hole geometry is produced with the aid of a punch of circular cross sectional geometry, in that a cutter of the punch has leading and recessed cutting regions, with the result that disrupted partial regions are formed.

A method of connecting a first component and a second component with the aid of an auxiliary joining part, wherein the auxiliary joining part is formed from a pin and a plate. A position of intended fracture is present between the plate and the pin. The first component, the second component and the auxiliary joining part are brought into a stacked arrangement such that the plate contacts the first component and the pin projects away from the side of the plate remote from the first component. A force is exerted on the pin of the auxiliary joining part in the direction towards the stacked components which leads to a fracture at a position of intended fracture and the pin is used in order to pierce slugs from the stacked components. The end of the pin which is pressed through the second component, and/or a washer which is optionally provided there, is deformed in order to provide a form-locked connection to the second component or to a washer which is provided there. Furthermore, an auxiliary joining part is claimed.

A fastener is staked to a sheet of equal or higher strength material. The fastener can be staked to a substantially circular shaped opening in the sheet material but other shapes of openings can be used. The opening is prepared by forming serrations in at least a part thereof. The serrations can take many forms and depths depending on the requirements for the particular application and materials being used. The serrations are formed by a doming tool and a punch tool aligned on opposite sides of the sheet material coming together to create the serrations. The nut is inserted into the serrated opening in the sheet material and force is applied to the fastener causing at least a portion of material of the fastener to flow at least partially into the serrations and secure the fastener to the sheet material.
