An urging member urges a first end of a worm shaft toward a worm wheel via a first bearing. The worm shaft includes a tooth flank forming portion and a non-tooth flank forming portion formed between the first end and the tooth flank forming portion. In a housing, a shaft housing portion that houses the worm shaft includes a substantially straight portion and a reduced diameter portion. The substantially straight portion has a substantially constant bore diameter, and extends in an axial direction of the worm shaft. The reduced diameter portion is arranged on the first end side with respect to the substantially straight portion, and has a bore diameter reduced from a position that overlaps tooth flanks in the axial direction to a position that overlaps the non-tooth flank forming portion in the axial direction.

Planetary transmission

A planetary transmission, comprising a housing, a drive part, an output part having an output shaft that is rotatable about an output axis of rotation, and at least one gear stage between the drive part and the output part. The drive part, the at least one gear stage, and the output part are mounted in the housing, the housing has an output flange on the output side, wherein the output flange has a first lateral surface with circularly symmetrical in radial planes about an axis of symmetry, wherein the first lateral surface is arranged eccentrically with respect to the output axis of rotation.

Gearbox assembly for an electric power steering apparatus

A gearbox assembly for an electric power assisted steering system. The gearbox assembly includes a housing, a worm shaft, and a gear wheel, the worm shaft being supported relative to the housing by a main bearing assembly and a tail bearing assembly. The tail bearing assembly at least is free to move relative to the housing, allowing the worm shaft to move radially away from the axis of the gear wheel. The worm shaft is enables to move normal to the worm shaft axis such that it can move in and out of meshing contact with the gear wheel. The assembly further includes a gripping means that acts between the tail bearing assembly and the housing such that torque transmitted through the gear wheel generates a friction force that locks the tail bearing assembly to prevent movement of the worm shaft normal to the worm shaft axis that would otherwise occur.

Gear unit for motor vehicle

A gear unit for a motor vehicle including a rotatable worm gear shaft rotating about a rotation axis and cooperating with a worm gear wheel in an engagement region spaced from the rotation axis. A pivotable rotary bearing mounts the worm gear shaft on a housing on one side of the engagement region and a loose rotary bearing, pretensioned in the direction of the spacing axis, mounts the other side in the housing. A support device supports the pivotable rotary bearing on the housing in the direction of the rotation axis. To optimize engagement between a worm gear shaft and a worm gear wheel, the pivotable rotary bearing pivots relative to the housing about a pivot axis perpendicular to the rotation axis and to the spacing axis. A support point of the support device is offset relative to the rotation axis along the spacing axis towards the engagement region.
