System and method for installing a manifold plug

The present disclosure relates to an insert and system of installing the same. The insert includes a tapered core and a cylinder. The core releasably secures to an installation device which includes a depth stop or a depth control to control the installation depth of the insert. The insert may be provided in a tray that allows for easier handling of the inserts and installation thereof in installation holes, for example in a hydraulic manifold. In some cases, the core includes a threaded hole to releasably secure the insert to the installation device, thus allowing the installation device to pull the core into the cylinder. The core and cylinder may be made of metallic materials such as steels, steel alloys and others. In some cases the insert can withstand blow out pressures of 40,000 psi or higher.

HYDRAULIC PLUG

A method of manufacturing a hydraulic plug includes providing a shell comprising a circumferential wall, a sealed end, an open end and a cylindrical cavity opening to the open end is provided. The open end of the shell is wider externally than the sealed end. A head of an expander is inserted into the cavity. The head of the expander has a convex contact surface which is rounded in an axial direction (A) of the cavity. A region of the shell adjacent its open end is plastically deformed causing material from the circumferential wall of the shell to be displaced radially inward around the head of the expander to form a constricted opening retaining the expander within the cavity. The deforming reshapes an internal surface of the cavity from a cylindrical to a non-linear shaped ramp leading up to a constricted opening.

A method of installing an exhaust tube is implemented by inserting an exhaust tube into an exhaust pipe that leads from the inside of a building to the outside thereof. Utilizing an already-placed exhaust pipe, a new exhaust tube is inserted into this exhaust pipe. The exhaust tube is installed according to a procedure of: performing, on the inside of the building, an operation of inserting a new exhaust tube into the already-placed exhaust pipe; performing, on the outside of the building, an operation of fixing the inserted exhaust tube to the exhaust pipe; and performing, on the inside of the building, an operation of connecting the fixed exhaust tube to an exhaust vent of a combustion apparatus.

A sealing plug comprises the combination of a stem and sleeve, in which the stem is designed to have an external taper such that, on installation of the plug by a setting tool, sleeve material flows into a gap between the sleeve and taper to assist with locking the sleeve and stem together. Furthermore, the tool nose piece has a conical taper designed to cause sleeve material to flow, initially on installation, radially outward to effect locking of the plug into a blind hole into which it is being installed.
