A hydraulic unit is for use in a multi zone heating system. The hydraulic unit comprises a variable output pump; a plurality of independently controllable valves, each valve being associated with one heating zone; and at least one temperature sensor. Each heating zone receives a heated water supply from a common heat source via the pump. The heating system includes a controller comprising a processor which receives signals from the at least one temperature sensor which processes the signals in accordance with control software. Command signals are sent to the pump and the plurality of independently controllable valves, to vary the flow rate of water from the common heat source to each of the heating zones independently one to another. Remote fault diagnosis and control is also provided.

A heating system (100), a controller (110) for a heating system and a method of controlling a heating system (100) suitable for responding to grid stress events are disclosed. A heating system (100) comprises a tank (104) for holding water; a heat pump (102) arranged to provide heat to the tank (104); an electric heating element (108) disposed in the tank for heating water; and, a controller (110) configured to: control electric power from an electric power grid to the heat pump (102) and the electric heating element (108); detect a grid stress event; determine a heat pump energy penalty for providing heat in response to the grid stress event under a present operating condition; and, vary, in dependence on the determined heat pump energy penalty, a power provided to the electric heating element (108).

Controller, method of operating a water source heat pump and a water source heat pump

In one embodiment, a water system includes a compressor, a condenser fluidly coupled to the compressor by refrigerant tubing, a modulating motor-controlled valve configured to alter a flow of water through the condenser, an accelerometer mechanically coupled to the water system, and a water system controller. The water system controller may be configured to perform an automated anti-water hammer procedure. During the automated anti-water hammer procedure, the water system controller may be configured to activate an operating procedure for the water system, transmit a control signal to the modulating motor-controlled valve, receive vibrational measurements received from the accelerometer, compare the vibrational measurements measured by the accelerometer to a predetermined vibration level associated with the operating procedure, and adjust the opening position and opening speed of the modulating motor-controlled valve for the operating procedure if the vibrational measurements exceed the predetermined vibration level associated with the operating procedure.

MULTI-STAGED WATER MANIFOLD SYSTEM FOR A WATER SOURCE HEAT PUMP

One aspect, as provided herein, is directed to a multi-stage fluid control system for a fluid source heat pump system. This embodiment comprises compressors configured to operate as separate, heat exchange stages, condensers each being fluidly coupled to at least one of the compressors by refrigerant tubing and having intake ends coupled together by a fluid intake manifold. This embodiment further includes output conduits coupled to each of the condensers and that are couplable to a distal location. Further included is a modulating valve control system interposed the output conduits. The modulating valve control system is configured to stage a flow of fluid through the condensers based on a number of operating compressors.

With the disclosure, heating can be provided by precisely controlling indoor temperature and effectively lower power consumption.

The present disclosure discloses a defrosting control method, a central controller and a heating system. The defrosting control method comprises: heating fluid in a flow passage between an inlet and an outlet of a first heat source by a second heat source, at least in a part of process of defrosting by the first heat source; acquiring an operation parameter of the first heat source, wherein the operation parameter comprises a water outlet temperature and/or a water return temperature and/or an operation parameter of a compressor of the first heat source, comparing a current value of the acquired operation parameter with a preset range of the operation parameter, and adjusting a heat exchange amount between the second heat source and the fluid when the acquired current value is within the preset range. The defrosting control method, the central controller and the heating system provided by the present disclosure can improve the defrosting efficiency while considering the heating comfort, and ensure the stable operation of the defrosting process.
