Snap fit assembly for a ruggedized multi-section structure with selective embrittlement or case hardening
Apparatus and methods associated with an enclosure or structure including two sections that are adapted with a snap-fit interlocking structure. Various embodiments of the enclosure or structures are formed with various case hardening or embrittlement processes to increase embrittlement or hardness of the enclosure or structure so as to create a structure or enclosure which has a desired fragmentation capacity while still maintaining sufficient material properties to permit snap-fit insertion of one section into another section and withstand substantial impacts. Embodiments also provide an interlocking structure that minimizes differences in fragmentation or fracturing capacity as contrasted with other portions of the structure or enclosure. An embodiment of the invention includes an enclosure where one section of the enclosure or structure has a first thickness and the second section has a second thickness, wherein the first and second thicknesses are different. In some embodiments, one section is thinner than another section.

WARHEADS, MUNITIONS AND METHODS FOR OPERATING SAME
A modular warhead includes an outer warhead subassembly and a core subassembly. The outer warhead subassembly defines a core slot. The outer warhead subassembly includes a warhead body, and a warhead high explosive operative, when detonated, to drive fragments from the warhead body. The core subassembly is mounted in the core slot. The core subassembly includes: a core tube formed of a non-explosive material; a forward effector in or on the core tube; and a core high explosive disposed in the core tube and operative, when detonated, to drive the forward effector.

Controlled fragmentation of a warhead shell
A series of small explosive charges are used to preferentially crack the casing of a warhead to provide for a controlled fragmentation of the warhead. During detonation of the warhead's explosive fill, the casing will break early in the process along predetermined lines resulting in very large fragments that are projected toward the ground and away from innocent civilians. A fragmentation control collar which contacts these charges can be fitted on the outside of existing warheads. An annular liner within the warhead aids in the controlled fragmentation.

PROJECTILE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A PROJECTILE
A projectile and method for producing the projectile. The projectile having a projectile main body which has a recess for receiving explosive and which, at least in part, has a preferably cylindrical lateral surface oriented along a longitudinal axis of the projectile main body. At least one fragmentation group includes at least two mutually adjacent, ring-shaped fragmentation bodies which are threaded on along the lateral surface and forming a fragmentation portion of the projectile. At least mutually adjacent fragmentation bodies of a fragmentation group are interconnected by at least one weld bead.
