A ceiling fan assembly having a motor assembly with a rotating blade hub, and at least one fan blade mounted to the rotating blade hub with a blade span defined between a tip and a root, and defining an airfoil cross section including a rounded leading edge and a v-shaped trailing edge defining a chord therebetween. The blade comprising a pressure side surface and a suction side surface extending between the leading and trailing edges and including a hollow interior and including a tip opening at the tip and a root opening at the root for accessing the hollow interior. The at least one fan blade includes a thickness to chord ratio of less than about 15%.

A ceiling fan including a retention system and method of redundantly retaining a ceiling fan can include a ceiling fan motor assembly including a hollow motor shaft at least partially surrounded by a motor housing. A retainer plate is provided at the bottom of the motor housing including an opening. A retainer rod extends through the opening in the retainer plate and secures to the retainer plate. A support cable couples to the retainer rod to suspend the retainer plate from a structure, wherein the retainer plate is configured to redundantly retainer the ceiling fan.

A ceiling fan assembly including a stator assembly having a non-rotating motor shaft and stator slidably and non-rotationally coupled to the non-rotating motor shaft, a rotor assembly, a first bearing slidably mounted to the non-rotating motor shaft and rotatably coupling the rotor assembly to the stator assembly, and a first spacer located between the first bearing and the stator assembly to fix the sliding location of the first bearing relative to the stator along the non-rotating motor shaft.

A ceiling fan comprising a motor having a rotating blade hub and a downrod mount. The ceiling fan also has multiple blades mounted to the rotating blade hub. The downrod has an upper end configured to mount to a structure and a lower end with a mount motor. The ceiling fan also has multiple studs provided in one of the downrod mount or the motor mount and corresponding openings provided in the other of the downrod mount or the motor mount. The studs are received within the openings to aid in securing the downrod to the motor assembly.

A resistor assembly for a motor drive circuit for an electric motor assembly can have a generally circular shape. The resistor assembly includes a resistor with input and output connectors and a pair of conductor elements extending from the input and output connectors. The pair of conductor elements extend adjacent each other along a curved serpentine path so the resistor has a generally circular outer perimeter and a generally circular inner perimeter. The curved serpentine path of the pair of conductor elements allows current to flow through the pair of conductor elements so that magnetic fields generated by the current flow through the pair of conductor elements cancel each other, thereby providing the resistor with low inductance.

A cross-flow fan includes a cylindrical impeller having an annularly designed first magnetically effective core disposed at a first end, an annularly designed second magnetically effective core disposed at a second end, a plurality of vanes arranged between the first magnetically effective core and the second magnetically effective core, a first stator, which is a bearing and drive stator, and which interacts with the first magnetically effective core as a first electromagnetic rotary drive, and a second stator, which is at least a bearing stator, and with which the second magnetically effective core is capable of being magnetically levitated without contact with respect to the second stator. The impeller is magnetically driven without contact by the first and the second stators and magnetically levitated without contact with respect to the first stator and the second stator.

A ceiling fan mount assembly having a downrod assembly with a downrod and a motor assembly comprising motor and including a motor shaft. The ceiling fan mount assembly further includes a downrod plate coupled to the downrod and a shaft coupler coupled to the motor shaft and coupled to the downrod plate, whereby coupling the downrod plate to the shaft coupler suspends the motor from the downrod.
