Insert and wear ring for a railway roller bearing

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a wear ring assembly is provided for a railway roller bearing. The wear ring assembly includes a wear ring having a central opening for receiving a journal of a railway wheel assembly and an insert including a plurality of spacers configured to extend in the opening of the wear ring to separate the wear ring from the journal. The spacers are spaced apart from each other about the wear ring. The insert may include one or more flanges that separate the wear ring from a bearing cone.

The seal assembly includes an annular seal disposed about the inner member and having a sealing lip sealingly engageable with the inner member. An annular load ring is disposed within the outer member bore and has an inner circumferential surface defining a bore, the seal being disposed within the bore and coupled with the ring. A first axial end of the ring is disposed against the bearing outer ring, or a spacer disposed axially between the load ring and the bearing outer ring, and a second axial end is disposed against a radial surface of the outer member. The load ring is configured to support axial loading on, and to prevent axial displacement of, the bearing outer ring.

A rolling-element bearing assembly includes a first bearing ring and a second bearing ring that define a bearing interior between them, a plurality of rolling elements disposed in the bearing interior to allow a relative rotation of first and second bearing rings, and a seal assembly for sealing the bearing interior. The seal assembly includes a seal carrier that is connected to the first bearing ring such that they rotate together and a seal element that is connected to the seal carrier such that they rotate together, and the seal carrier comprises a fiber-reinforced plastic.
