A system includes a carriage configured to move along a rail. The system also includes a clamping brake configured to selectively allow and prevent movement of the carriage along the rail. The clamping brake includes multiple brake pads configured to be moved inward to lock onto the rail and to be moved outward to release the rail. The clamping brake also includes multiple springs configured to apply spring forces that cause the brake pads to move inward and lock onto the rail. The clamping brake further includes a camshaft coupled to or including multiple eccentrics. The eccentrics are configured to overcome the spring forces and cause the brake pads to move outward and release the rail.

Parking brake actuation system for a vehicle
11173888 · 2021-11-16 ·

A parking brake actuation system mounted to a tail shaft of a vehicle's transmission is operably connected to a brake assembly of the vehicle having brake pads housed within a brake drum. The parking brake actuation system includes a mounting bracket coupled to the tail shaft of the vehicle's transmission, an actuator coupled to the mounting bracket, and a bell crank coupled to the tail shaft of the vehicle's transmission and the actuator, and also connected to an engagement cam by a linkage assembly. Actuation of the actuator to a retracted position permits rotational movement of the bell crank to transfer through the linkage assembly to engage the pair of brake pads with the brake drum. Actuation of the actuator to an extended position permits rotational movement of the bell crank to transfer through the linkage assembly to disengage the pair of brake pads from the brake drum.

According to a further aspect, there is provided a guide for attachment to a brake shoe at or near its free end, which prevents brake shoe misalignment. According to a further aspect, there is provided a drum brake assembly comprising a brake shoe comprising the guide.

METHOD FOR DETERMINING DESIGN PARAMETERS OF AN ELECTROMECHANICAL BRAKE, AND ELECTROMECHANICAL BRAKE
20220003288 · 2022-01-06 · ·

A method for determining design parameters of an electromechanical brake is provided. The brake comprises an electric motor connected to a brake lining by a transmission. The brake lining can be pressed against a friction lining movable relative to the brake lining. The electric motor is connected to the brake lining by a transmission that has a transmission ratio which is not constant over an actuation stroke. A reliable and economical brake is achieved in that an electric motor, a brake lining and a friction lining are selected, whereupon the transmission ratio is selected on the basis of the counter-torque acting over the actuation stroke, which counter-torque acts on the transmission. The transmission ratio is selected in such a way that the electric motor is operated at an optimal operating point, in particular at an operating point of maximum power, substantially over the entire actuation stroke.

BRAKE SHOE GUIDE IMPROVEMENTS

A heavy vehicle drum brake shoe guide and an assembly comprising the brake shoe guide are described. In one aspect, there is provided a brake shoe guide for attachment to a drum brake shoe by a pin fastener, to prevent brake shoe misalignment. There is also provided a brake shoe guide assembly including at least a brake shoe guide and a pin fastener for securing the brake shoe guide to a drum brake shoe. The brake shoe guide described herein is simple to fit to a standard, off the shelf brake shoe, and can be retrofitable to a brake shoe and/or brake assembly. Moreover, the brake shoe guide assembly described herein can retain the cam follower roller to the brake shoe, and act as an axle for the cam follower roller, eliminating the need for a separate retainer clip. Further still, the guide and the assembly of which it forms a part can be used with drums of various sizes.
