PROCESS FOR INCREASING LOW PRESSURE PURE NITROGEN PRODUCTION BY REVAMPING ORIGINAL APPARATUS FOR CRYOGENIC AIR SEPARATION

The object of the present invention is to provide a different solution for revamping existing producing apparatuses so as to increase the production of low pressure pure nitrogen while controlling as far as possible the capital and operation expenditures. The revamping solution comprises increasing the diameter and/or height of a pure nitrogen column to thereby improve the production capacity thereof; choosing to switch the conduits where the waste liquid nitrogen and pure liquid nitrogen are passed through in the subcooler according to the increment of the low pressure pure nitrogen production; adding an additional heat exchanger to conduct a heat exchange between a portion of the medium pressure air and the increased low pressure pure nitrogen; or simultaneously switching the main parts of the conduits which transfer the pure liquid nitrogen and waste liquid nitrogen from a first column of higher pressure to a second column of lower pressure while performing the above revamping. The stepwise revamping solution of the present invention can be used not only to control the cost but also increase the low pressure pure nitrogen production while ensuring a stable operation of the air separation unit.

Main heat exchange system and method for reboiling

A method and main heat exchange system for use in a cryogenic air separation plant in which down-flow and thermosiphon heat exchangers are employed to partially vaporize an oxygen-rich liquid produced in a lower pressure column and to condense the nitrogen-rich vapor in a higher pressure column. A greater proportion of the oxygen-rich liquid can be partially vaporized in the down-flow heat exchangers than in the thermosiphon heat exchangers and the nitrogen-rich vapor condensed in the thermosiphon heat exchangers can have a higher oxygen content than the nitrogen-rich vapor condensed in the down-flow heat exchangers. This allows the higher pressure column to operate at a lower pressure than would otherwise be possible. A central conduit can extend from the higher pressure column into the lower pressure column to introduce the nitrogen-rich vapor into at least the down-flow heat exchangers for purposes of reducing pressure drop and column height.

AIR SEPARATION SYSTEM AND AIR SEPARATION METHOD

The present invention provides an air separation system and an air separation method. The air separation system comprises an air separation apparatus and a nitrogen liquefier. In the air separation apparatus, multiple output pipelines are led out from a rectification column system via a main heat exchanger. In the nitrogen liquefier, a gas delivery pipeline delivers a gas flow expanded by an expander. The air separation system further comprises an intermediary pipeline. An inlet end of the intermediary pipeline is connected to the gas delivery pipeline of the nitrogen liquefier, and an outlet end of the intermediary pipeline is connected to at least one of the multiple output pipelines of the air separation apparatus at a position between the rectification column system and the main heat exchanger, such that the intermediary pipeline delivers a gas flow to the at least one output pipeline. The air separation system and air separation method can be started up smoothly without the use of liquid nitrogen stored externally in reserve.
