A production direct gas impingement semi-automatic AR-style rifle is converted to a single shot, straight pull bolt action rifle that includes: a) conventional rifle components, including an upper receiver and lower, trigger, trigger guard, barrel; b) a direct gas impingement semi-automatic firing mechanism including automatic gas actuated casing ejection, automatic gas actuated bolt and hammer reset, and automatic gas actuated cartridge reload functionality, including a bolt carrier with two production carrier gas key screw threaded receiving orifices and having no production carrier gas key, and a having a metal gas blocking and diverting mechanism attached to the bolt carrier in the place of a production carrier gas key. This inhibits semi-automatic operation of the rifle by disabling the automatic gas actuated casing ejection, bolt and hammer reset, and cartridge reload functionality. In some embodiments the bolt carrier assembly and aforementioned gas diverting block mechanism components are unistructurally formed.

Rifle with safety group

A rifle has a fixed main body, including a barrel, a receiver with an upper opening, and a breech element. A trigger group is at least partially housed in the receiver, including a trigger, a hammer device operable by the trigger, and a safety member positionable in a shooting position, disengaged from the hammer device and in a safety position, engaged with and blocking the hammer device. A carriage assembly with a shutter group is positioned on the receiver at the upper opening and axially movable by the user between an advanced shooting configuration and a retracted rearming configuration. The carriage assembly includes a safety group controllable by the user, with the carriage assembly in the advanced configuration, in a ready-to-shoot configuration, in which it is disengaged from the safety member, and a safety configuration, in which it engages and keeps the safety member in the safety position.

A carriage assembly is axially movable between an advanced shooting configuration and a retracted rearming configuration, and vice versa. The carriage assembly includes an assembly body positioned on the receiver at the upper opening, which is axially slidably movable, having a through housing extending transversally, a firearm handle with an outer portion grippable and an inner portion shaped for complementarily housing in the through housing, being insertable both sides, and a shutter group partially accommodated in the assembly body, including a shutter body and a shutter head. The shutter head is mountable onto the shutter body in first and second angular positions, which are reciprocally inverted. The rifle is configurable for a right-handed or a left-handed person by changing the position of the firearm handle and the shutter head.

Bolt assembly

A method of assembling a bolt handle to a bolt assembly of a firearm includes inserting the bolt handle through a handle opening defined by a bolt body. A distal end of the bolt handle is inserted through the handle opening until the distal end extends past an outer perimeter of the bolt body. At least a portion of a bolt shroud is inserted through a first portion of an aperture defined by the bolt handle. A force is applied to the bolt shroud while the bolt handle is retracted within the handle opening of the bolt body so that the bolt shroud is positioned within a second portion of the aperture. The bolt shroud is held in connection with the bolt handle when the bolt shroud is positioned within the second portion of the aperture to secure the bolt handle to the bolt body.
