A rifle having a straight pull bolt assembly with a bolt handle that extends outward and downward from a bolt operation mechanism. The bolt handle rotatable a limited rotational range forward and rearwardly about a horizontal axis for operating the mechanism. The handle can be reconfigured to position its rotational range about the horizontal axis and can be attached to the mechanism at either left or right sides to provide for ambidextrous operation. Bolt heads, lower frame members with magazine wells, and barrel assemblies can be readily swapped to change ammunition. The bolt assembly can be unlocked by firing or by a thumb push button release at the backside of the mechanism. A bolt removal release mechanism is forward of the thumb pushbutton and an ejector includes a spring bias and cam follower surface to reliably eject casings.

The present invention relates to a breech block for firearms, particularly for repeating firearms, comprising a cartridge chamber, an external case and a bolt accommodated therein, wherein the bolt features a breech head in the region facing the cartridge chamber and a control piece is arranged within the bolt such that it can be axially displaced relative to the bolt and relative to the breech head, with said breech block furthermore comprising a bolt lever that is connected to the control piece such that the breech head is unlocked during a backward motion and locked during a forward motion of the bolt lever, wherein the bolt lever is pivotably mounted in the rear end region of the case and the bolt lever can be pivoted about an axis that extends eccentric to the longitudinal axis of the bolt, wherein the control piece is according to the invention connected to the bolt lever by means of an intermediate piece, which protrudes radially outward from the bolt, the breech head is mounted in the bolt such that it is rotatable about its axis, and the breech head is rotated by axially displacing the control piece.

A production AR-style semi-automatic rifle (i.e. AR-15, AR-10, M-16, M-4, etc.) that has been converted to a single shot rifle includes: a) conventional rifle components, including a receiving trigger, trigger guard, barrel; b) a semi-automatic firing mechanism including a gas actuated casing ejection and bolt reset mechanism including a bolt carrier with two carrier gas key threaded receiving orifices and having no production carrier gas key and a having a dual-bored metal block gas blocking restrictor mechanism attached to the bolt carrier and positioned so as to inhibit\semi-automatic operation of the AR-style semi-automatic rifle by disabling the automatic gas actuated casing ejection and automatic gas actuated bolt reset functionality. In some embodiments, there is a modified charge handle having an extension with two attachment orifices corresponding to the metal block gas blocking restrictor mechanism orifices and is coincidentally attached to the bolt carrier. There is also a method of converting a AR-style semi-automatic rifle to a single shot rifle.
