RIFLE WITH STRAIGHT PULL BOLT ACTION
20220299280 · 2022-09-22 ·

A rifle having a straight pull bolt assembly with a bolt handle that extends outward and downward from a bolt operation mechanism. The bolt handle rotatable a limited rotational range forward and rearwardly about a horizontal axis for operating the mechanism. The handle can be reconfigured to position its rotational range about the horizontal axis and can be attached to the mechanism at either left or right sides to provide for ambidextrous operation. Bolt heads, lower frame members with magazine wells, and barrel assemblies can be readily swapped to change ammunition. The bolt assembly can be unlocked by firing or by a thumb push button release at the backside of the mechanism. A bolt removal release mechanism is forward of the thumb pushbutton and an ejector includes a spring bias and cam follower surface to reliably eject casings.

A bolt-action weapon includes a receiver rotatable about a longitudinal axis, a first gear component, a second gear component and a bolt-action lever. At its front end, the receiver has a non-rotating bolt head. The first gear component is attached to the rear end of the receiver in a rotationally fixed manner, wherein the receiver rotates with the first gear component when the latter rotates. The second gear component lies at an angle to the first gear component and is in engagement with the latter for mechanical transmission of a rotational movement. The bolt-action lever is connected to the second gear component such that the bolt-action lever can rotate with it, whereby the bolt-action lever can be engaged in at least two functional positions. The bolt-action lever is movable back and forth in axial direction together with the two gear components and the receiver.

A bolt assembly for a rimmed-cartridge firearm has a bolt head on a forward end. An extractor is located on the bolt head and engages at least a portion of a rim of a rimmed cartridge without engaging a front surface of the rim. A biased tensioner is also located on the bolt head and angularly spaced about the bolt head from the extractor, the tensioner applying force to the rim without engaging a front surface of the rim. The extractor and tensioner cooperate for retaining the rim adjacent the bolt head.

Firearm trigger mechanism

A firearm with a compound lever trigger mechanism includes a first member pivotally attached to a firearm receiver at a first pivot and a first lever arm extending away from the first pivot attachment point to a sear. The first member is pivotable between a first position where the sear engages a firing element and a second position where the sear does not engage the firing element. A trigger member is pivotally attached to the first member first lever arm with a trigger blade arm extending away from the second pivot in one direction and a bearing arm extending away in another direction toward bearing contact with a surface of the receiver. Pulling the trigger blade arm causes the trigger member to pivot relative to the first member and the bearing arm to move in bearing contact against the receiver, thereby pivoting the lever arm from the first position to the second position.

Bolt for bolt action rifles

A bolt for a bolt-action firearm in one embodiment is movably disposed in a receiver between forward closed breech and rearward open breech axial positions. The bolt includes an operating handle and plurality of bolt lugs arranged to selectively engage locking lugs in the firearm. The bolt is rotatable between locked and unlocked breech positions when in the closed breech position. The bolt body has a dimensionally reduced middle section with unique configuration adapted to allow the bolt to rotate when closed without interference from the magazine feed lips. Using this design, the bolt may include three bolt lugs in one embodiment for secure lockup and minimal angular rotation between the locked and unlocked breech positions. The bolt is usable with both single and double stack box type magazines with one of the bolt lugs operating to reliably strip cartridges from either type magazine.
