SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR VIRTUALLY DETERMINING FUEL SULFUR CONCENTRATION
A control module for an aftertreatment system that includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst and an oxidation catalyst, comprises a controller configured to be operatively coupled to the aftertreatment system. The controller is configured to determine an actual SCR catalytic conversion efficiency of the SCR catalyst. The controller determines an estimated SCR catalytic conversion efficiency based on a test sulfur concentration selected by the controller. In response to the estimated SCR catalytic conversion efficiency being within a predefined range, the controller sets the test sulfur concentration as a determined sulfur concentration in a fuel provided to the engine. The controller generates a sulfur concentration signal indicating the determined sulfur.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REDUCING AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM NOX EMISSIONS
A controller for an aftertreatment system coupled to an engine is configured to: in response to receiving an engine shutdown signal, determine an estimated amount of ammonia stored on a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst included in the aftertreatment system; in response to determining that the estimated amount of ammonia stored in the SCR catalyst is less than an ammonia storage threshold, cause flow of a heated gas towards the SCR catalyst; cause insertion of reductant into an exhaust gas flowing through the aftertreatment system; and in response to determining that the estimated amount of ammonia stored in the SCR catalyst is equal to or greater than the ammonia storage threshold, cause shutdown of the engine.
Autonomous auxiliary DEF supply system with purge control
An auxiliary system automatically supplies diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) to a diesel engine onboard DEF tank to enable prolonged unattended operation. The system includes an auxiliary DEF tank and supply line, a controller, pump, air inlet, and three-way valve configured to switch the pump inlet between the auxiliary DEF tank and air. In response to low-level DEF, the pump delivers DEF to replenish the onboard DEF tank. The controller calculates onboard DEF tank volume based on the delivered volume of DEF, and DEF level data received from an ECM, to enable replenishment control regardless of engine make and model. In response to high-level DEF, engine stoppage, or system fault, the controller switches the pump inlet to air and runs the pump to purge DEF from the supply line. The auxiliary system may be skid-mounted, portable, and configured to supply DEF to multiple diesel engines.
Exhaust aftertreatment subsystem
An exhaust aftertreatment system and associated system for purifying an exhaust gas feedstream of a lean-burn engine includes an oxidation catalyst that is arranged upstream of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. A first NOx sensor is arranged upstream, and a second NOx sensor is arranged downstream of the oxidation catalyst. A controller is arranged to monitor the oxidation catalyst based upon inputs from the first and second NOx sensors. A first NOx parameter is determined via the first NOx sensor, and a second NOx parameter is determined via the second NOx sensor. An NO2 parameter is determined based upon the first NOx parameter, the second NOx parameter, a first relationship for the first and second NOx sensors, and a second relationship for the first and second NOx sensors. The NO2 production of the oxidation catalyst is evaluated based upon the NO2 parameter.
METHOD FOR UNBLOCKING PORES IN A SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION CATALYST
The invention concerns a method for unblocking pores in a metal zeolite based selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. The method includes filling, at least partially, the SCR catalyst with a liquid, the liquid being preferably distilled water. The method includes letting said liquid inside the SCR catalyst enough time to allow said liquid to dissolve, at least partially, the obstructions and to penetrate into the pores. The method includes heating the SCR catalyst at a temperature above the ebullition temperature of the liquid so as to vaporize the part of the liquid remained into the pores, and generate steam flows through the obstructions, the steam flows removing the obstructions and unblocking the pores, wherein no hydrocarbons are injected during the step of heating.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSING OXIDATION OF A SUBSTANCE IN AN EXHAUST GAS STREAM
Disclosed is a method for diagnosing a first exhaust treatment component for treatment of an exhaust gas stream comprising means for oxidizing nitric oxide into nitrogen dioxide. A first reduction catalytic converter is arranged upstream said means for oxidizing nitric oxide into nitrogen dioxide, and a second reduction catalytic converter is arranged downstream said means. A reagent is for reduction of nitrogen oxides in said first catalytic converter, and a first sensor measures an occurrence of nitrogen oxide downstream said means but upstream said second reduction catalytic converter. The method comprises: causing a supply of reagent upstream said first reduction catalytic converter to an extent exceeding the extent to which reagent is consumed by the first reduction catalytic converter, determining a first measure of the occurrence of reagent downstream said means for oxidizing, and diagnosing said means for oxidizing nitric oxide into nitrogen dioxide based on said first measure.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR TURBINE BYPASS
Methods and systems are provided for a turbocharger. In one example, a method may include bypassing exhaust gases flowing to the turbocharger in response to a catalyst temperature being less than a threshold temperature. The bypassing includes opening a bypass valve and adjusting a position of one or more turbine nozzle vanes.
Aftertreatment system, dual fuel system, and dual fuel apparatus
Systems and apparatuses include a selective catalytic reduction system structured to receive exhaust gases from a dual fuel engine system and include a diesel exhaust fluid dosing unit, an ammonia slip catalyst positioned directly downstream of the selective catalytic reduction catalyst, an oxidation catalyst positioned directly downstream of the ammonia slip catalyst, and one or more processing circuits. The circuits receive a system out NOx value, a space velocity, an ammonia to NOx ratio, an exhaust temperature, a substitution rate, and a conversion efficiency target. The circuits determine a conversion efficiency differential, adjust the substitution rate based on the system out NOx value, adjust the ammonia to NOx ratio based on the space velocity, the ammonia to NOx ratio, the exhaust temperature, the substitution rate, the conversion efficiency target, and the conversion efficiency differential, and determine a diesel exhaust fluid dosing rate for the diesel exhaust fluid dosing unit.
CONTROLLING UREA INJECTION IN EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEMS
A method for controlling urea injection in an exhaust aftertreatment system includes injecting urea at a flow rate upstream of the first catalytic reduction device; measuring a level of nitrogen oxides downstream of the first catalytic reduction device and upstream of the second catalytic reduction device; controlling the flow rate of the urea injection until the measured level of nitrogen oxides fulfils a predetermined condition; if the measured level of nitrogen oxides is decreasing in response to reducing the flow rate of the urea injection, reducing the flow rate of the urea injection, and controlling a flow rate of urea injection using the second urea injector upstream of the second catalytic reduction device according to the measured level of nitrogen oxides downstream of the first catalytic reduction device and upstream of the second catalytic reduction device.
EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT ARRANGEMENT FOR CLEANING EXHAUST GASES
An exhaust aftertreatment arrangement for cleaning exhaust gases includes a fluid channel for providing a fluid pathway for the exhaust gases, a selective catalyst reduction, SCR, catalyst, arranged in or downstream the fluid channel, a heating arrangement for heating the exhaust gases, the heating arrangement being arranged upstream of the SCR catalyst and comprising an electrical heating element, a first fluid pathway for guiding the exhaust gases to the electrical heating element, and a second fluid pathway for guiding the exhaust gases to bypass the electrical heating element, wherein the heating arrangement is removably arranged relative the fluid channel.
