A gaseous emissions treatment component has a honeycomb substrate along and through which extend elongate cells for the passage of gaseous emissions through the substrate. The cells are bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another. Metal elements occupy and extend along some of the cells. A metal element has an outer surface shape matching the inner surface of an immediately adjacent part of the cell within which the metal element is located.

The present invention addresses the problem and purpose of providing a honeycomb structure that has a sufficiently high strength and is excellent in endurance, and a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas using the same that is excellent in resistance to sulfur oxide (SOX). The honeycomb structure of the present invention is one consists of a flat inorganic fiber sheet comprising an inorganic fiber sheet having supported thereon an inorganic binder and zeolite, and a corrugated inorganic fiber sheet comprising an inorganic fiber sheet having supported thereon the same inorganic binder and zeolite, which are alternately combined with each other, wherein it is characterized in that the zeolite has a particle diameter (i.e., a median particle diameter, D50) of from 0.5 to 10.0 m.

The catalyst constituent obtained by mixing catalyst metal particles and a pore-forming material that disappears at high temperatures into a catalyst supporting material, which is a slurry containing fine ceramic particle. The pore-forming material also contains long fibers of cellulose nanofibers and/or short fibers of cellulose nanofibers.

Various structures for catalytic convertors are disclosed herein. The device includes an outer housing enclosing a catalytic core. The catalytic core can be formed in a myriad of ways. Flow paths through the core are constructed so that they are not straight-line paths from the inlet of the device to the outlet of the device. Pleated conformations and stacked core arrays are described that maximize the catalytic surface area in a given volume of housing. The application of the core to exhaust from diesel engines is also disclosed.

An extruded, solid honeycomb body comprises a copper-promoted, small pore, crystalline molecular sieve catalyst for converting oxides of nitrogen in the presence of a reducing agent, wherein the crystalline molecular sieve contains a maximum ring size of eight tetrahedral atoms, which extruded, solid honeycomb body comprising: 20-50% by weight matrix component comprising diatomaceous earth, wherein 2-20 weight % of the extruded, solid honeycomb body is diatomaceous earth; 80-50% by weight of the small pore, crystalline molecular sieve ion-exchanged with copper; and 0-10% by weight of inorganic fibres.

The invention provides a metal fiber felt including a woven or nonwoven mixture of fibers including a first plurality of core/shell catalytic metal fibers and an optional second plurality of reinforcing fibers, wherein the catalytic metal fibers include a core including a first metal and a shell including a catalytic metal, the catalytic metal being a noble metal, a base metal, or a combination thereof, and wherein the average diameter of the reinforcing fibers, when present, is greater than the average diameter of the catalytic metal fibers. The metal fiber felt is useful in catalytic articles for use in the abatement of pollutants in exhaust gas streams from internal combustion engines and other environmental and/or chemical catalytic processes.
