Catalyst device

A catalyst device includes a catalyst carrier serving as a heating element that generates heat when energized. The catalyst device includes a guide pipe that guides exhaust into the case. The catalyst device includes a connecting pipe that connects the guide pipe to the case. The case has an end that is an insulative portion and projects further upstream, in the direction in which exhaust flows, from an end surface of the catalyst carrier. A temperature difference inducing structure, which induces a state in which the connecting pipe is relatively lower in temperature than the end of the case, includes a heat shield, encompassing an outer circumferential surface of the connecting pipe and having an opening in part of a portion opposing the outer circumferential surface of the connecting pipe, and a stay fixing the outer circumferential surface of the connecting pipe to an internal combustion engine.

The first plenum and the second plenum are configured to alternatingly supply both the first fluid and the second fluid to the heat-transfer bed such that the first fluid and the second fluid heat up and react while flowing through the heat storage material. During a time period in which one of the first plenum and the second plenum is configured to supply the first fluid and the second fluid to the heat-transfer bed, the other one of the first plenum and the second plenum is configured to drain the reacted fluid from the heat-transfer bed.

The NO oxidation site is positioned such that the flow of exhaust gases at a downstream end (40) of the NO oxidation site in use of the heat exchanger system is arranged to proceed at a temperature within a predetermined temperature interval corresponding to a desired NO to NO2 (NO:NO2) ratio interval in the flow of exhaust gases. An exhaust gas aftertreatment system and a vehicle including such a heat exchanger system, and a method for using such a heat exchanger system, are also provided.
