A filter rod support device is adapted to receive at least one filter rod such that one end thereof is exposed. An analysis unit is disposed with respect to the filter rod support device so as to interact with the one end of the at least one filter rod to determine a status of the at least one filter rod and to provide a corresponding signal in response thereto.

Apparatus for determination of the position of an insert in rod-like articles (1) used in the tobacco industry, provided with a conveyor (2) for rod-like articles (1) adapted for transporting rod-like articles (1) in a direction of transporting (T) perpendicular to the lengthwise axis (Z) of the rod-like article (1) in a predetermined plane of transporting (A), a radiation source (6), and at least one detector (7, 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D, 7E, 7F), characterised in that the apparatus is provided with a set of at least two sections (F1, F2) of a detector (7, 7A, 7B, 14) and/or two detectors (7C, 7D, 7E, 7F), where the sections (F1, F2) of the detector (7, 7A, 7B, 14) or two detectors (7C, 7D, 7E, 7F) are placed one behind the other in the direction of transporting (T) on the conveyor (2) of rod-like articles (1) in a predetermined spatial orientation in which the radiation (R) hitting on the sections (F1, F2) of the detector (7, 7A, 7B, 14) or the detectors (7C, 7D, 7E, 7F) passes through the rod-like article (1) at different angles (1, 2); the apparatus is further provided with a controller (20) adapted to receive from the sections (F1, F2) of the detector (7, 7A, 7B) and/or the detectors (7C, 7D, 7E, 7F) a sequence of signals (S), where each sequence of signals (S) corresponds to the same rod-like article (1) transported on the conveyor (2), and moreover the controller (20) is adapted so that it determines the position of the insert (1E) in the rod-like article (1) on the basis of the sequence of signals (S) and the parameters of the predetermined spatial orientation of placement of the detectors (7, 7A, 7B, 14, 7C, 7D, 7E, 7F).
METHOD AND AN APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING ROD-LIKE ARTICLES FOR TOBACCO INDUSTRY
A method for manufacturing rod-like articles for tobacco industry, the rod-like articles comprising longitudinal inserts located in a filling material, the method comprising: feeding a continuous tape-like wrapper; feeding a strand of the filling material onto the moving wrapper; feeding an insert material, in a form of a tape having weakenings, into the strand of the filling material; forming a continuous rod by wrapping the wrapper around the strand of the filling material with the insert material; cutting the moving continuous rod into discrete rod-like articles by a cutting head at a cutting plane that traverses the weakening in the tape of the insert material; the method being characterized by: inspecting ends of the insert in the rod like article cut from the continuous rod and comparing the ends with a predefined model to obtain a measure of similarity; and depending on the similarity, adjusting the action of the cutting head with respect to the movement of the continuous rod such as to increase the similarity between the ends of the insert to the model in a following rod like article.

A measuring system for measuring and detecting physical and dimensional parameters of multi-segment rod-like articles, includes: a first lighting device that generates a light beam that strikes and crosses a front segment; a second lighting device that generates a light beam that strikes and crosses a back segment; an image detection sensor having a detection axis that radially strikes a longitudinal axis of the article; and a control and processing unit configured in such a way to process the images acquired by the image detection sensor and calculate dimensional, geometrical and physical features of the segments of said article.
Inspection station and method for inspecting sheet material
The invention relates to an inspection station for crimped sheet material. The station comprises a light source to illuminate crimped sheet material in an inspection location, a vibrating device to vibrate crimped sheet material in the inspection location. The vibrating device comprises a vibrating element, wherein crimped sheet material is guidable along or over the vibrating element for the crimped sheet material to be vibrated by the vibrating element. The inspection station further comprises a detector for detecting light received from the vibrated crimped sheet material, thereby providing images of the crimped sheet material, and a controller to determine loose material on the crimped surface of the sheet material. The invention also relates to an inspection method and an apparatus comprising an inspection station.
Method and apparatus for filling transport containers with rod-like articles of tobacco industry
The object of the invention is an apparatus for filling transport containers (1) with rod-like articles of the tobacco industry, provided with an area (2) receiving the rod-like articles in the form of a mass flow, a rod-like article storage area (3) comprising at least two sidewalls, a filling unit (4) constituting the bottom wall of the storage area for transferring the rod-like articles from the storage area to the transport container, a lowering conveyor (5) working together with the filling unit (4), adapted to lower the transport container while filling with the rod-like articles. The apparatus is characterised by being further provided with a counting module (6) designed to count the rod-like articles in the transport containers, adapted so that the individual rod-like articles being in the transport container are counted.
Apparatus and method for rejection of defective rod-like articles from a mass flow of rod-like articles of the tobacco industry
An apparatus of the tobacco industry for the rejection of defective rod-like articles from a mass flow of rod-like articles, comprising a monitoring unit (100) adapted to optically determine geometrical parameters of rod-like articles (R), and at least one rejecting unit (200) adapted to remove a rod-like article from the mass flow (M) of rod-like articles (R), wherein the mass flow (M) being transported on the conveyor (10), such unit (200) being situated behind the monitoring unit (100) with reference to the direction (T) of the mass flow (M) of rod-like articles (R). The apparatus is characterised in that the monitoring unit (100) has optical recorders (101) recording images of opposite side surfaces of the mass flow (M) of rod-like articles (R) on a conveyor (10) wherein said side surfaces are formed by front surfaces or rod-like articles (R). The apparatus comprises the controller (300) which basing on the recorded images, using the criteria concerning geometrical parameters of the opposite front surfaces of rod-like articles (R), identifies defective rod-like articles (Rd) in the mass flow (M), and determines the position of the defective rod-like articles (Rd) in the mass flow (M), and the rejecting unit (200) comprises at least one rejecting element (201, 203, 204, 205, 205) adapted to reject the defective rod-like article (Rd), the rejection unit (200) being mounted in such a way that it moves along together with the mass flow (M) in a position enabling it to reject the defective rod-like article (Rd).

An apparatus (1) for detecting a substance in a rod shaped article of the tobacco industry (2), the apparatus (1) including one or more sources (10,11) of electromagnetic radiation, one or more detectors (26, 27) and a processor (32). The one or more sources (10, 11) are configured to generate electromagnetic radiation at first and second wavelengths (1, 2). The one or more detectors (26, 27) are configured to detect the first and second wavelengths (1, 2) after propagation in the rod shaped article (2), lo and to generate signals (A, B) based on the amount of radiation received at each wavelength (1, 2). The processor (32) is configured to process the signals (A, B) to determine information relating to the presence of the substance, based on the relative amount of radiation received at the first and second wavelengths.

Apparatus (1) for identification of physical parameters of rod-like articles (2) of the tobacco industry provided with a multi-path conveyor (3) of rod-like articles (2), fed with rod-like articles from a supplying device; a radiation source (17) arranged for emitting radiation (R) towards the paths (P) of the multi-path conveyor (3); a radiation sensor (18) arranged so that the it receives the radiation (R) from the radiation source (17), after the radiation (R) penetrated through the multi-path conveyor (3) of rod-like articles (2); whereas the radiation source (17) and the radiation sensor (18) are situated on opposite sides of a transferring plane (A); characterised in that the radiation sensor (18) is positioned transversely to the paths (P) of the conveyor (3), whereas the radiation sensor (18) is arranged so that it produces a signal (S) representing attenuation of the radiation (R) penetrating through the rod-like articles (2) on the paths (P) of the multi-path conveyor (3), situated between the radiation source (17) and the radiation sensor (18).
