ANNULAR DIVIDED WALL COLUMN FOR AN AIR SEPARATION UNIT
An annular divided wall column for the cryogenic rectification of air or constituents of air is provided. The annular divided wall column includes a first annular column wall and a second annular column wall disposed within the first annular column wall and radially spaced therefrom to define an annulus column region as the space between the first annular column wall and the second annular column wall. An interior core column region is also defined by the interior space of the second annular column wall. The present annular divided wall column further includes a plurality of packing elements, plurality of trays or a heat exchange device disposed within the interior core column region; and a plurality of packing elements disposed within the annulus column region.
Air separation unit and method for production of nitrogen and argon using a distillation column system with an intermediate pressure kettle column
An air separation unit and associated method for separating air by cryogenic distillation using a distillation column system including a higher pressure column, a lower pressure column, an intermediate pressure kettle column, and an argon column arrangement is provided. The disclosed air separation unit and method is particularly suited for production of an argon product as well as several nitrogen products wherein a portion of the nitrogen overhead intermediate pressure kettle column is taken as an intermediate or elevated pressure nitrogen product. The present air separation unit and associated method employs a once-through kettle column reboiler, a once-through kettle column condenser while the argon condenser condenses an argon-rich vapor stream against a pumped oxygen stream from the bottom of the lower pressure column.
Method ad apparatus for argon recovery in a cryogenic air separation unit integrated with a pressure swing adsorption
A method and apparatus for argon recovery in which an impure argon stream is separated from air within a cryogenic air separation unit having an argon rejection column and a reflux type argon condenser disposed internally within the lower pressure column. An impure argon stream is subsequently recovered from the argon rejection column and purified within an integrated adsorbent based argon refining and purification subsystem to produce product grade argon. The waste stream from the adsorbent based argon refining and purification subsystem is recycled back to the argon rejection column so as to improve the argon recovery.
METHOD FOR CONTROLLING PRODUCTION OF HIGH PRESSURE GASEOUS OXYGEN IN AN AIR SEPARATION UNIT
A method for controlling production of high pressure gaseous oxygen in a cryogenic air separation unit that uses a high pressure gaseous oxygen bypass together with adjustments to the split of the incoming compressed and purified air between the boiler air circuit and the turbine air circuit such that the volumetric ratio of the boiler air stream to the turbine air stream is reduced to between about 0.15:1 and 0.35:1.
Method and apparatus for argon rejection and recovery
A method and apparatus for argon rejection and recovery in which argon is separated from air within a cryogenic air separation plant having a divided wall argon rejection column arrangement and condensed using an argon condenser disposed internally within the lower pressure column. The divided wall argon rejection column arrangement may be an annular arrangement or a side-by-side arrangement (i.e. segmented or planar configuration). The resulting argon stream is subsequently rejected or recovered and optionally purified within an integrated adsorbent based argon refining and purification subsystem to produce product grade argon.
Condenser-reboiler system and method
A system and method for the concurrent condensation of a nitrogen-rich vapor and vaporization of an oxygen-rich liquid in a distillation column based air separation unit is provided. The disclosed system includes a condenser-reboiler heat exchanger located between a lower pressure column and a higher pressure column and configured to condense a nitrogen-rich vapor from the higher pressure column and partially vaporize an oxygen-rich liquid from the lower pressure column. Within the condenser-reboiler heat exchanger, the nitrogen-rich vapor flows in an upward direction such that any non-condensables present in the nitrogen-rich vapor will accumulate proximate the upper portion or top of the condenser-reboiler modules where they can be easily removed through venting.
Air separation device and air separation method
An air separation device for distilling air at a low temperature, includes a high-pressure column to separate high-pressure raw material air into high-pressure nitrogen gas and high-pressure oxygen-enriched liquefied air; a low-pressure column to separate the high-pressure oxygen-enriched liquefied air into low-pressure nitrogen gas, low-pressure liquefied oxygen, and argon-enriched liquefied oxygen; an argon column to separate the argon-enriched liquefied oxygen having a pressure higher than the pressure into argon gas and medium-pressure liquefied oxygen; first and second indirect heat-exchangers; first and second gas-liquid separation chambers; a first/second passage which communicates the gas/liquid phase of the low-pressure column and the gas phase of the second gas-liquid separation chamber; and a first/second opening/closing mechanism located on the first/second passage.
