The outer member includes an elastic band member attached to the two outer securing components. A distance between the outer securing components of the elastic band member in a relaxed state is less than a distance between the two inner securing components mounted to the inner member. The distance between the two outer securing components of the elastic band member in a stretched state is equal to the distance between the two inner securing components mounted to the inner member.

An example system includes a helmet, a load bearing harness, and a flexible extension coupled between the helmet and the load bearing harness. An activation of a magnetic field proximate the flexible extension causes a ferromagnetic infused medium to transition from a fluid state to a substantially rigid state causing the flexible extension to transition from a flexible state to a rigid state. When the flexible extension is in the rigid state, force applied to the helmet transfers through the flexible extension to the load bearing harness. The system further includes a sensor configured to detect an event. Particularly, the sensor causes the activation of the magnetic field proximate the flexible extension in response to detecting the event.

The at least one layer of neoprene includes a plurality of spaced-apart segments of the at least one layer of neoprene. The protective shirt includes a neoprene neck pad. Embodiments of the protective shirt include cap-sleeve, short sleeve, long sleeve, sleeveless and tank top versions. In one embodiment, the garment material includes nylon and spandex.

A wearable airbag includes an attachment unit, which is provided at the wearable airbag and a counterpart wearable airbag so as to structurally connect the wearable airbag to the counterpart wearable airbag, the counterpart wearable airbag being worn at a location on a user's body adjacent to a location at which the wearable airbag is worn, and an electrical connection unit configured to transmit and receive an electrical signal to the counterpart wearable airbag in a state in which the wearable airbag is coupled to the counterpart wearable airbag via the attachment unit.
