An optical circulator is coupled to receive a light signal from a broadband light source, to provide the light signal to the fiber-optic sensors, and to receive a returned optical signal from the fiber-optic sensors. A spectral engine is coupled to the optical circulator to receive the returned optical signal and configured to provide an output signal.
Aviation component inspection using image recognition
An aviation component inspection device includes a camera, a display, an input device, and a computer. The camera is configured to capture images of an aviation component under inspection. The computer is configured to receive an image from the camera, evaluate the image with one or more machine-learning aviation component-detection models. Each machine-learning aviation component-detection model is previously trained to output at least one confidence score indicating a confidence that a corresponding aviation component is present in the image. The computer is configured to present, via the display, a list of candidate aviation components based on corresponding confidence scores output by the one or more machine-learning aviation component-detection models, and add data previously-associated with a selected candidate aviation component from the list to a digital inspection report responsive to receiving user verification, via the input device, confirming the selected candidate aviation component is present in the image.
Crack identification in IC chip package using encapsulated liquid penetrant contrast agent
A packaging fill material for electrical packaging includes a base material, and a plurality of frangible capsules distributed in the base material. Each frangible capsule includes a liquid penetrant contrast agent therein having a different radiopacity than the base material. In response to a crack forming in the packaging fill material, at least one of the plurality of frangible capsules opens, releasing the liquid penetrant contrast agent into the crack. Cracks can be more readily identified in an IC package including the packaging fill material. The liquid penetrant contrast agent may have a radiopacity that is higher than the base material. Inspection can be carried out using electromagnetic analysis using visual inspection or digital analysis of the results to more easily identify cracks.

Method for mounting a rail monitoring element
A method of mounting a rail monitoring member/element at a mounting location of a rail for rail traffic, in particular on a railway track, is disclosed. The rail monitoring member includes a strain sensor member with a carrier on which a strain gauge, being an optical fiber with a fiber Bragg grating, is fixed. The method steps include: determination of the temperature of the rail and/or rail monitoring member at the mounting location; checking whether the determined temperature is within a predefined temperature interval; providing heating or cooling application to the rail and/or rail monitoring member at the mounting location, if the determined temperature is not within the predefined temperature interval; positioning and adhesively fixing of the carrier of the rail monitoring member at the mounting location. The method can be carried out easily and allows reliable and accurate monitoring of the rail using a strain sensor member.
A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR TRACKING MOTION OF A BLADE
The present invention relates to a method and a system for tracking the motion of a blade of a wind turbine. One embodiment relates to a blade motion tracking system for installation on a wind turbine blade, where the wind turbine blade comprises a blade root and a blade tip. The system comprises at least one light module comprising at least a first light source, preferably adapted to emit light in the direction of the blade root. An optical measuring device is provided, preferably located at the blade root, adapted to receive light emitted from the first light source(s). Apparatus, fiber optic sensor assembly and sensor housing assembly utilizing viscous material composition to mitigate signal attenuation
Embodiments of the present invention provide a unique new approach to generating operating condition information used for assessing flow assurance and structural integrity. More specifically, apparatuses, systems and sensor housing assemblies configured in accordance with embodiments of the present invention utilize fiber optic sensors for enabling monitoring of operating condition information within one or more elongated tubular members within a subsea environment. To this end, such fiber optic sensors connected by lengths of optical fiber are strategically placed at a plurality of locations along a length of each elongated tubular member thereby allowing critical operating conditions such as strain, temperature and pressure of the elongated tubular member and/or a fluid therein to be monitored. A viscous media is used for mitigating attenuation associated with exposure of optical fiber exposed to forces generated by pressure within the subsea environment.
