Disclosed herein are devices for assessing drug dissolution, absorption and permeation, the devices comprising a chamber, a permeability barrier, and a securing cap, each in fluid communication with each other. The chamber comprises a reservoir and an extension. The permeability barrier is configured to hold cells, tissues, or artificial membranes, and the securing cap is configured to reversibly attach to the permeability barrier or the extension of the chamber. Also provided are systems for assessing drug dissolution, absorption and permeation, the systems comprising at least one of the devices for assessing drug dissolution, absorption and permeation, a dissolution vessel configured to hold a dissolution medium, and a stirring apparatus within the dissolution vessel. Methods for concomitant measuring of dissolution, absorption and/or permeation of a drug are also provided.

Apparatus and method for visiometric disintegration

In one version of the invention, an apparatus intended for determining the disintegration time of rapidly disintegrating tablets is designed with a disintegration cell having two liquid inlets and outflow from the top. Visualization of tablet inside the disintegration cell is conducted using a camera aided by a base light source and images captured using a computer or any other recording system. Disintegration medium is introduced into the disintegration cell through both inlets to produce a swirling motion and images of the tablet disintegration process are captured. The captured images are analyzed in real-time or off-line, to determine the tablet disintegration time. A visual non-recording method using projected image may also be used.

Embodiments of the present invention provide an apparatus and method for determining whether a dosage unit of a pharmaceutical drug disintegrates in an immersion fluid of a disintegration tester within a prescribed time limit and to record and transmit to human-accessible output devices the times required. In one implementation, the apparatus comprises a computer system, a motion sensor, a capture device, a fastener for attaching the capture device and motion sensor to the reciprocating arm of the disintegration tester, and one or more data communications interfaces to carry commands and data between the computer system, the motion sensor and the capture device.

A fiber-optic transmission probe system for, for example, dissolution testing, includes a single probe, a single probe tip, and a number of pathlength adjusters of different lengths. The transmission probe system is usable to assemble different probe assemblies having different, desired optical pathlengths, where each probe assembly has either no pathlength adjuster or a different one of the pathlength adjusters. The probe system avoids the prior-art requirements of having either (i) multiple probes of different, fixed optical pathlengths or (ii) a probe with multiple probe tips of different, fixed lengths to achieve the different, desired optical pathlengths.
