11598630 · 2023-03-07 · ·

An optical method of measurement and an optical apparatus for determining the spatial position of at least one luminous object on a sample. A sequence of at least two compact luminous distributions of different topological families is projected onto the sample, and light re-emitted by the at least one luminous object is detected. At least one optical image is generated for each luminous distribution on the basis of the light detected. The optical images are analyzed to obtain spatiotemporal information regarding the light re-emitted by the at least one luminous object, or location of the at least one luminous object.

Sample processing improvements for quantitative microscopy

Among other things, a diluted sample is generated based on mixing a small sample of blood with a one or more diluents. A thin film of the diluted sample is formed on the surface of a contact optical microscopy sensor. Red blood cells within a portion of the thin film of the diluted sample are illuminated using light of a predetermined wavelength. One or more images of the diluted sample are acquired based on illuminating the red blood cells within the portion of the thin film of the diluted sample. The acquired one or more images of the diluted sample are then processed. The mean corpuscular hemoglobin in the red blood cells within the portion of the thin film of the diluted sample is determined based on processing the acquired images of the diluted sample.

20170370828 · 2017-12-28 ·

An apparatus includes a pipe through which a multiphase fluid flows, with a transparent window structure formed in the pipe. A collimated light source emits light through the transparent window structure into the pipe having a wavelength at which a component of a desired phase of the multiphase fluid is absorptive. A photodetector is positioned such that the emitted light passes through the multiphase fluid in the pipe to impinge upon the photodetector. The photodetector has an actual dynamic range for collimated light detection. Processing circuitry is configured to continuously adjust a power of the collimated light source dependent upon an output level of the photodetector so as to cause measurement of the emitted light over an effective dynamic range greater than the actual dynamic range, and determine a property of the multiphase fluid as a function of the power of the collimated light source.
