Biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of corneal ectatic disorders
The invention relates to the field of the diagnosis and prognosis methods of molecular pathologies. In particular, the invention relates to methods for determining the diagnosis of an ectatic disease of the cornea in a subject, for determining the risk of developing an ectatic disease of the cornea in a subject, for determining the clinical outcome of a subject suffering from an ectatic disease of the cornea and for selecting a subject to be treated with a therapy for an ectatic disease of the cornea based on the determination of the expression levels of TLR2 and/or TLR4 markers. The invention also relates to the use of the TLR2 and/or TLR4 as diagnosis and prognosis markers for an ectatic disease of the cornea.
CD59 FOR INHIBITING INFLAMMASOME ACTIVATION
Methods and kits are provided for inhibiting inflammasome activation in cells of a subject or an inflammation-affected eye in a subject by administering to the subject a composition including a nucleotide sequence encoding a membrane independent CD59 protein operably linked to a promoter for expression and secretion of the membrane independent CD59 protein in the cells or the inflammation-affected eye, the composition inhibiting inflammasome activation.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR TREATING GRAVES DISEASE
Provided herein are compositions and methods for treating or preventing thyroid eye disease (e.g., related to Graves' disease). In particular, provided herein are compositions and methods for inhibiting or reducing the expression of HIF2A, LOX, or pathway components thereof.
OPTICAL SENSORS, SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USING SAME
Optical sensors, systems and methods of use thereof are provided. Aspects of the subject systems include a sensor having a sensing surface and a configuration that directs a first optical signal to interact with the sensing surface at a first incident angle, and directs a second optical signal to interact with the sensing surface at a second incident angle. The subject sensors, systems and methods find use, e.g., in the diagnosis of dry eye disease.
NOVEL SCREENING METHOD FOR TGF-BETA INHIBITOR
The present invention provides a method for screening for a compound that is effective against disorders of the corneal endothelium. The method according to the present invention comprises: (a) a step for bringing candidate compounds into contact with immortalized cells of Fuchs' corneal endothelial dystrophy in the presence of transforming growth factor (TGF)-, making evaluations on the inhibitory activity of said candidate compounds against said TGF-, and selecting a compound having the inhibitory activity; (b) a step for evaluating the toxicity of the compound selected in step (a) with respect to said immortalized cells; (c) a step for evaluating the inhibitory activity of the compound selected in step (a) against said TGF-; and (d) a step for selecting a compound that has been evaluated to have low toxicity to said immortalized cells in step (b) and has been evaluated to have inhibitory activity against said TGF- in step (c). The method according to the present invention makes it possible to screen for a compound that is effective for disorders of the corneal endothelium.
COMPANION DIAGNOSTIC FOR HTRA1 RNA ANTAGONISTS
The present invention relates to the use of HTRA1 mRNA antagonists in the treatment of eye disorders, such as macular degeneration, and the use of an HTRA1 levels in the aqueous and vitreous humor as a diagnostic biomarker for the suitability of treatment of a subject with an HTRA1 mRNA antagonist.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTOMATED FUNDUSCOPIC IMAGE ANALYSIS
A system and method of classifying images of pathology. An image is received, normalized, and segmented normalizing the image; into a plurality of regions; A disease vector is automatically determining for the plurality of regions with at least one classifier comprising a neural network. Each of the respective plurality of regions is automatically annotated, based on the determined disease vectors. The received image is automatically graded based on at least the annotations. The neural network is trained based on at least an expert annotation of respective regions of images, according to at least one objective classification criterion. The images may be eye images, vascular images, or funduscopic images. The disease may be a vascular disease, vasculopathy, or diabetic retinopathy, for example.
PREDICTIVE BIOMARKERS FOR TREATMENT OF EYE DISEASES
The present invention relates to a method for predicting a response to a treatment of an eye disease on the basis of proteome changes. The invention also relates to a kit for use the method.
METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR ASSESSING AND TREATING INTRAOCULAR DISEASES AND DISORDERS
Provided are compositions, devices and systems, methods for assessing, treating and/or preventing an intraocular disease or disorder in a subject, wherein the etiology of the intraocular disease or disorder comprises infection of a microorganism in the intraocular space or cavity of the subject. Provided are compositions, devices and systems, and methods for assessing, treating and/or preventing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in a subject, e.g., a human patient.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING SAMPLE OSMOLARITY
Systems and methods for determining the osmolarity of a sample are provided. Aspects of the subject methods include contacting a sensing surface of a surface plasmon resonance based sensor with a sample, and generating one or more data sets at at least two wavelengths over a time interval, wherein the data sets are used to determine the osmolarity of the sample. The subject methods find use in determining the osmolarity of a sample, such as a biological sample (e.g., a tear fluid), and in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various diseases and disorders, such as, e.g., dry eye disease.
