Ribbon sections are connected at nodes that may move substantially independently of other nodes. The ribbon structure can provide strength along one of the directions and may simultaneously remain slack in the other direction.

Knitted component with raised structure and methods of manufacture

A knitted component including a first knit layer of a first yarn and a second knit layer of a second yarn. The second knit layer and the first knit layer are at least partially coextensive with each other and form a pocket between the first and second knit layers. A third yarn is at least partially positioned within the pocket and between the first and second knit layer. The third yarn is secured to the first knit layer at a first location within the pocket and to the second knit layer at a second location within the pocket. The pocket forms a raised structure when the knitted component is subjected to a stimulus.

A separable footwear article may comprise an outsole oriented at the bottom of the footwear and configured for ground contact, the outsole comprising a first material; an upper portion releasably coupled to the outsole with thread using chain stitching, the upper portion comprising a second material different from the first material; and an insole removeably disposed adjacent the upper portion and the outsole, the insole comprising a third material different from the first material and the second material; wherein the outsole, the upper portion, and insole are capable of being separated by releasing the thread and hand pulling the thread from the footwear article.

The first expandable yarn may include an exposed portion that is exposed on the first surface of the knitted component. The inlaid portion of the first expandable yarn may have a first diameter, where the exposed portion of the first expandable yarn has a second diameter, and where the second diameter is larger than the first diameter.

The material layers are removed from the last and turned inside out such that the first material layer includes an exposed surface that forms an exterior surface of the upper.
