An image forming apparatus including a photosensitive member, an optical scanning device including a transmission member configured to cause laser light for scanning the photosensitive member to pass through the transmission member, and a developing device configured to develop an electrostatic latent image with toner, the electrostatic latent image being scanned by the laser light and formed on the photosensitive member; a cleaning mechanism configured to clean the transmission member; a counter configured to store a count value that is a number of sheets on which an image forming operation is performed, and a control unit which executes a cleaning sequence before execution of an adjustment sequence, and resets the count value upon execution of the cleaning sequence, in a case where the count value is less than or equal to a predetermined value.

An optical scanning device includes a light transmitting member, a guide rail, a holding member, and a cleaning member. The light transmitting member extends in a main scanning direction and transmits a light beam. The guide rail extends in the main scanning direction and is arranged parallel to the light transmitting member. The holding member extends in a cross direction intersecting the main scanning direction and moves in the main scanning direction along the guide rail. The cleaning member is held by the holding member and cleans a light emitting surface of the light transmitting member by means of movement of the holding member in the main scanning direction.

There is provided a sponge cleaning roller for cleaning an electrophotographic printing drum, the sponge of the cleaning roller having a Shore 00 hardness of about 9 or greater and a porosity of about 38 ppi or greater.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier configured to carry an image; a transfer unit configured to transfer the image to a medium; and a cleaner configured to remove deposits on a surface of the image carrier after passing through a position of the transfer unit, in which when a type of a medium to be used is a first medium, the cleaner improves an ability to remove the deposits from the image carrier as compared with a case where the medium to be used is a second medium having a lower transfer sensitivity than the first medium.

A cleaning device includes a thin plate-shaped first blade that cleans a surface of a toner carrying body by making a tip portion come in contact with the toner carrying body to carry toner. The first blade includes a substrate and a coat layer covering a surface of the substrate. In the first blade, a cross-sectional shape, in a thickness direction, of the tip portion is a convex shape, or a protruding shape in which a center side protrudes more than an end portion of a contact side.

An image forming device includes a photoconductor, a motor, a charging member, a cleaning blade, and an abnormality determining unit. The motor is configured to drive the photoconductor to rotate. The charging member is configured to charge the photoconductor. The cleaning blade is configured to contact the photoconductor and remove residual toner from a surface of the photoconductor. The abnormality determining unit is configured to determine abnormality of the cleaning blade based on a motor current flowing in the motor and a gap between the photoconductor and the charging member.

Disclosed is an image forming apparatus, including an optical scanning device, wherein the optical scanning device includes: a holding member configured to integrally hold a first cleaning member and a second cleaning member; a first guide member configured to guide a movement of the holding member; a second guide member configured to guide a movement of the holding member; a first groove portion; a second groove portion, and wherein when the holding member moves from end portions of the first guide portion and the second guide portion to an opposite side with respect to a central portion side and a first engaging portion and a second engaging portion of the holding member respectively pass in the first groove portion and the second groove portion, engagements of the first engaging portion and the second engaging portion with the first guide portion and the second guide portion are released.

An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image bearing member, a developing member, a transfer member, and a brush contacting a surface of the image bearing member in a contact portion downstream of a transfer portion and upstream of a developing portion with respect to a rotational direction of the image bearing member. The toner which is not transferred onto a toner image receiving member is collected by the developing member. In a charging series, the toner is positioned on the same side as a normal charge polarity of the toner relative to the brush. In the contact portion, a maximum value of a contact pressure of 0.7 gf/mm.sup.2 or more and 3.5 gf/mm.sup.2 or less, a maximum contact area ratio is 18% or more and 74% or less, and a Clark-Evans index of the brush is 1 or more.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, a pair of conveyance rollers, a conveyance member, and a cleaning unit. The image forming portion forms an image on a sheet. The pair of conveyance rollers conveys the sheet at a predetermined timing to an image formation position at which the image is formed by the image forming portion. The conveyance member conveys the sheet at the image formation position. The cleaning unit includes a cleaning member that is configured to come in contact with a target roller and the conveyance member, the target roller being one of the pair of conveyance rollers that comes in contact with the sheet.

An image forming apparatus which includes an optical scanning device, wherein the optical scanning device includes: a holding member configured to integrally hold a first cleaning member and a second cleaning member; a first guide member configured to guide a movement of the holding member; and a second guide member configured to guide a movement of the holding member. A first protruding portion protrudes upward from an upper surface of the holding member and is provided at a position closer to an end portion of the holding member than the first cleaning member, and a second protruding portion protrudes upward from the upper surface of the holding member and is provided at a position closer to an end portion of the holding member than the second cleaning member. The first protruding portion and second protruding portion are provided for bending the holding member.
