Smoke-able shells that are sold commercially for use in roll your own cigarettes, cigars and cigarillos may be made from smoke-able material such as leaves and homogenates and humectant. Humectant may be applied to the smoke-able material via spraying and/or addition to adhesive that is used to bond two or more layers of smoke-able materials together to form a smoke-able shell. The resulting smoke-able shells are characterized by reduced mold growth on their surface compared to the same smoke-able shells minus the humectant.

The encased tobacco strip within the enveloping means allows for the tobacco strip to keep a cylindrical shape until delivered and used by a consumer. The enveloping means may maintain the moisture for longer time due to the rolling method prior to delivery to a consumer.

A manufacturing machine method for the production of a tubular element provided with a filter at one end, includes, an insertion conveyor, which moves at least one pocket along an insertion path; a transfer station, where the pocket receives the tubular element inside the seat; an insertion station, where a filter is inserted into the tubular element housed in the seat; a tubular inserting body, with the shape of a truncated cone, is arranged in the area of the insertion station; an actuator designed to produce a relative movement between the pocket and the inserting body so as to at least partially place the inserting body inside the tubular element housed in the pocket; and a pushing element designed to push the filter along the entire inserting body until it comes out of the inserting body, so as to insert the filter into the tubular element surrounding the inserting body.

The applicator is also configured to apply the closing element internally or externally on an application end of a respective tubular segment in such a way as to form a closing wall to at least partly close the application end.
