Determining the average reading speed of a user
A user device determines a reading speed value for each of a plurality of measurable units of an electronic publication. The user device adds each reading speed value into one of a plurality of data sets or one of a plurality of outlier sets. The user device calculates the average reading speed of the user based on one or more of the plurality of data sets.

A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR MEASURING THE TIME OF A MOVING OBJECT USING A MOBILE DEVICE HAVING A CAMERA INCORPORATED THEREIN AND A TIME MEASUREMENT DEVICE
A system and method for measuring the time of a moving object during at least one training exercise is disclosed. The system includes a mobile device having a camera and a time measurement computer program. After placing the mobile device in a fixed stationary viewing angle position, the camera is arranged to capture digital images and to enter an image calibration mode, an algorithm calibration mode, and a detection mode before executing a time measuring command on the computer program. The system and method utilize histogram calculation for the digital images to trigger the time measuring command and read object movement detection when threshold values are detected.

Astrophysical timing derived from photometric relative phase measurements of periodic stellar variability
A method for deriving an independent current time estimate from celestial sources comprising: providing a reference measurement for a variable-intensity celestial source, wherein the reference measurement comprises the celestial source's photometric structure at a known time, at a known stellar period, and at a known periodic phase; creating a phase-folded light curve for the celestial source; measuring an intensity of the celestial source at a subsequent time; comparing the measured intensity of the celestial source to the phase-folded light curve to derive a set of possible phase differences, wherein each possible phase difference corresponds to a potential derived time based on the known time and the known stellar period of the reference measurement; and analyzing the set of possible phase differences to derive the current astrophysical time.

Imaging method and apparatus
A method of determining a location of an optical fibre positioned at least partially inside a scattering medium, the method comprises transmitting pulsed light into the scattering medium, receiving, by a detector, photons of the pulsed light that have passed through the scattering medium, selecting signals corresponding to some of the received photons, wherein the selecting is based on a time of arrival of the received photons; and determining a location of the optical fibre based on the selected signals.
