Nucleic acid sequences encoding transcription factors regulating alkaloid biosynthesis and their use in modifying plant metabolism
Plant metabolism and alkaloid levels can be regulated by transcription factors that regulate the nicotinic alkaloid biosynthetic pathway. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a transcription factor that negatively regulates alkaloid biosynthesis, such as nicotine biosynthesis.
BANDED PAPERS, SMOKING ARTICLES AND METHODS
Wrapper for cigarette manufacture includes transversely extending band regions applied by a printing technique, such as gravure printing. The band regions comprise starch, an anti-wrinkling agent such as 1,2 propylene glycol or glycerin, and optionally calcium carbonate. Any suitable printing technique can be used to apply the aqueous solution to the banded regions. The pattern of banded regions may be bands, stripes, two-dimensional arrays, undulated regions, and the like along and/or around the tobacco rod. The pattern can be applied in one or more layers. The pattern may be configured so that when a smoking article is placed on a substrate, at least two longitudinal locations along the length of the tobacco rod have film-forming compound located only on sides of the smoking article not in contact with the substrate.

WRAPPING PAPER PATTERN FOR AN AEROSOL-GENERATING ARTICLE
An aerosol-generating article comprising an outer wrapping sheet to form an outer tubular element of an aerosol-generating article that when rolled about a longitudinal axis, the outer wrapping sheet comprising a first edge comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the proximal portion includes a glued section, and wherein the distal portion extends from the proximal portion at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis.
SMOKING ARTICLE COMPRISING EXTINGUISHER ELEMENT
A smoking article (10) comprises a tobacco rod (12) and a mouthpiece (14) secured to a downstream end of the tobacco rod (12), the mouthpiece comprising: a tubular element (20) defining a longitudinal channel, wherein the tubular element (20) is provided adjacent the downstream end of the tobacco rod (12); a downstream segment of filter material (24), wherein the downstream segment of filter material (24) is downstream of the tubular element (20) and spaced apart from the tubular element (20) to define a cavity (26) between the tubular element (20) and the downstream segment of filter material (24); and an extinguisher element (22). The extinguisher element (22) comprises: a compressible reservoir (28) provided in the cavity (26) and containing a liquid; a neck portion (30) extending upstream from the reservoir (28) and having an open end, wherein the neck portion (30) is received in the longitudinal channel of the tubular element (20) such that the open end is proximate the downstream end of the tobacco rod (12); and sealing means (32) provided over the open end of the neck portion (30).

CIGARETTES AND THEIR CONSTRUCTION
A cigarette is provided with the tobacco column portion adjacent the filter assembly encased by a heat shrink material whereby as the burn approaches the butt the heat shrink material begins to contract radially and compress the encased tobacco column restricting the air flow therethrough. This reduces the diameter of burning column adjacent the filter assembly and thus extinguishes or at least confines the remaining tobacco in the cigarette.
