Up-regulation of auxin response factor NbTF7 to decrease nicotine in a plant
Plant metabolism and alkaloid levels can be regulated by transcription factors that regulate the nicotinic alkaloid biosynthetic pathway. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a transcription factor that negatively regulates alkaloid biosynthesis, such as nicotine biosynthesis. In particular, the present disclosure provides methods for overexpressing NbTF7 to decrease nicotine biosynthesis in plants.
BANDED PAPERS, SMOKING ARTICLES AND METHODS
Wrapper for cigarette manufacture includes transversely extending band regions applied by a printing technique, such as gravure printing. The band regions comprise starch, an anti-wrinkling agent such as 1,2 propylene glycol or glycerin, and optionally calcium carbonate. Any suitable printing technique can be used to apply the aqueous solution to the banded regions. The pattern of banded regions may be bands, stripes, two-dimensional arrays, undulated regions, and the like along and/or around the tobacco rod. The pattern can be applied in one or more layers. The pattern may be configured so that when a smoking article is placed on a substrate, at least two longitudinal locations along the length of the tobacco rod have film-forming compound located only on sides of the smoking article not in contact with the substrate.

Wrappers for smoking articles
Described are paper wrappers and smoking articles that can include the paper wrappers. The paper wrapper can include a weak organic acid or salt thereof. The addition of the weak organic acid or salt thereof to the paper wrapper can enhance the sensory characteristics of a smoking article that includes the paper wrapper. For instance, the addition of the weak organic acid can enhance the taste and/or smell of a smoking article that includes the paper wrapper.

EXTINGUISHING DEVICE FOR A SMOKING PRODUCT
The present invention provides a device for extinguishing a smoking product such as a cigarette or cigar. The device is inserted into a filter attached to a smoking product. The device includes a container for an extinguishing agent adapted to move from a first state wherein the extinguishing agent is not released from the container, to a second state where the extinguishing agent is released from the container.
SMOKING ARTICLE WITH EXTINGUISHMENT MEANS
There is provided a smoking article (10) comprising: a charge (12) of tobacco material; a wrapper (14) circumscribing the charge (12) of tobacco material; a filter (16) arranged downstream of the charge (12) of tobacco material; and a hollow tube (18) defining an inner cavity (20) and attaching the filter (16) to the wrapper (14). An affixing portion (22) of the wrapper (14) is received within the inner cavity (20) and permanently secured to the hollow tube (18). A downstream end of the charge (12) of tobacco material is secured to the wrapper (14) by means of a thermally deactivatable adhesive (28) provided on an outer surface of the charge (12) of tobacco material or on an inner surface of the wrapper (14) or on both such that, upon deactivation of the adhesive (28), at least a portion of the charge (12) of tobacco material becomes slidable within the wrapper (14) in relation to the filter (16).

Slideable extinguisher
A smoking article having a proximal end and a distal end is provided, including a combustible heat source disposed at the distal end; an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the combustible heat source; a mouthpiece downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate and disposed at the proximal end; and a tubular element, which is slideable from a first position towards the distal end to a second position. In the second position, the tubular element at least partially extends over the combustible heat source and is configured to reduce the air supply to the combustible heat source. The tubular element is configured to modify a heat output of the combustible heat source, and to control a resistance-to-draw of the smoking article by selectively covering air inlets.
