The image display apparatus includes: a display including an organic light emitting diode panel (OLED panel); and a controller configured to control the display, wherein the controller calculates an Average Picture Level (APL) of an input image, and in response to the calculated APL being greater than or equal to a first reference value in a high-dynamic range (HDR) mode, the controller decreases the APL and perform luminance conversion based on the decreased APL, and in response to the calculated APL being greater than or equal to the first reference value in a normal mode rather than the HDR mode, the controller performs luminance conversion based on the calculated APL. Accordingly, luminance representation may be improved during displaying image.

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a compensation device of luminance uniformity and a controlling method thereof, more particularly, to a technology of predicting a level of maximum luminance value that is changed in compensating luminance uniformity of an image displayed on a display apparatus and providing it to a user. A compensation device of luminance uniformity according to an embodiment includes a data acquirer configured to acquire a luminance value of an image displayed on a display apparatus; a controller configured to determine a maximum luminance value and a minimum luminance value among the acquired luminance values, and determine luminance uniformity of the minimum luminance value based on the maximum luminance value, and determine a change amount of the maximum luminance value to be adjusted in order to change the determined luminance uniformity; and a display configured to display the change amount of the maximum luminance value adjusted to change the luminance uniformity, and the luminance uniformity that is changed in response to the change amount of the maximum luminance value.

Systems and methods are provided to compensate image data for display on a curved display. A pixel uniformity compensation factor may be applied based on a pixel uniformity compensation factor map that is calibrated to the display panel while the display panel has a flat shape, and a panel curvature compensation factor may be applied when the image content is to be displayed while the display panel has a curved shape. The panel curvature compensation factor may be based on a panel curvature compensation factor map that is calibrated to the display panel after the display panel is bent from the flat shape to the curved shape.

Systems and methods are provided to compensate image data for display on a curved display. A pixel uniformity compensation factor may be applied based on a pixel uniformity compensation factor map that is calibrated to the display panel while the display panel has a flat shape, and a panel curvature compensation factor may be applied when the image content is to be displayed while the display panel has a curved shape. The panel curvature compensation factor may be based on a panel curvature compensation factor map that is calibrated to the display panel after the display panel is bent from the flat shape to the curved shape.
