A spectrometer device includes an optical interference filter which is designed to filter specific wavelength ranges of an incident light beam on passage through the optical interference filter. The spectrometer device also includes a detector device which is designed to detect the filtered light beam. Further, the spectrometer device includes a focusing device with a reflective surface. The focusing device is designed to focus the filtered light beam onto the detector device by reflection on the surface.

A system, apparatus and method of improved measurement of the SPF factor of sunscreen compositions. In one embodiment, a method of measuring the protection of a sunscreen composition includes exposing skin to a known intensity of light, measuring the amount of remitted light from the skin, applying sunscreen to the skin, exposing the skin to which the sunscreen has been applied the known intensity of emitted light of the spectrum of light from which the sunscreen is intended to protect the skin, measuring the amount of light remitted from the skin, and calculating a UltraViolet-A Protection Factor (UVA-PF) of the sunscreen by comparing the amount of light remitted from the skin with the sunscreen to the amount of light remitted from the skin without the sunscreen.

A method of making a colorimeter colour standard, including determining print parameters required to achieve a desired colour for the colour standard, printing the desired colour on a colour-receiving face of a first transparent piece using the determined print parameters and permanently affixing the printed first piece to a second transparent piece such that the colour-receiving face of the first transparent piece and a joining face of the second transparent piece are positioned at the interface between the first transparent piece and the second transparent piece.

The invention provides an optical coupling, comprising: a first coupling portion and a second coupling portion, the first and second coupling portions configured to mate in kinematic constraint via a first mounting interface and at least two further mounting interfaces, wherein: the first coupling portion comprises a first mounting element and the second coupling portion comprises a socket, and the first mounting element is receivable in the socket at the first mounting interface such that the first mounting interface constrains lateral displacements of the first coupling portion relative to the second coupling portion when mated; and at least one optical channel for transmitting abeam of light along an optical axis through the optical coupling, the optical channel comprising complementary light-transmitting ports in the first and second coupling portions, wherein the optical axis is not laterally removed from the first mounting interface by more than half the distance between the first mounting interface and the nearest of the further mounting interfaces.

An optical module 1 includes: a mirror unit 2 including a base 21, a movable mirror 22, and a fixed mirror 16; a beam splitter unit 3 that is disposed on one side of the mirror unit 2 in a Z-axis direction; a light incident unit 4 that causes measurement light L0 to be incident to the beam splitter unit 3; a first light detector 6 that is disposed on the one side of the beam splitter unit 3 in the Z-axis direction, and detects interference light L1 of measurement light which is emitted from the beam splitter unit 3; a support 9 to which the mirror unit 2 is attached; a first support structure 11 that supports the beam splitter unit 3; and a second support structure 12 that is attached to the support 9 and supports the first light detector 6.

Embodiments disclosed herein include optical sensor systems and methods of using such systems. In an embodiment, the optical sensor system comprises a housing and an optical path through the housing. In an embodiment, the optical path comprises a first end and a second end. In an embodiment a reflector is at the first end of the optical path, and a lens is between the reflector and the second end of the optical path. In an embodiment, the optical sensor further comprises an opening through the housing between the lens and the reflector.

Various embodiments are described that provide an optical spectroscopy probe which has a probe head with a first attachment portion with at least one component having a first shape, a sample optic subassembly with a second attachment portion that is proximal to the probe head and has at least one component with a second shape that is complimentary to the first shape for releasably engaging the first attachment portion of the probe head, and a locking mechanism to hold the sample optic subassembly and the probe head together and constrain relative motion therebetween along at least five degrees of freedom.
COUPLING LINK WITH INTEGRATED BEAM BLOCKING AND A BEARING ASSEMBLY USING AN AXIAL PRELOADING TECHNIQUE
An apparatus for providing an improved coupling link with integrated beam blocking and a bearing assembly using an axial preloading technique is disclosed. The apparatus may include a coupling link comprising a first end, a second end, and a middle section. The middle section may be connectable to a beam blocking element. The first end may include a first bearing assembly and may be connectable to a motor drive arm. The second end may include a second bearing assembly and may be connectable to an optical-mechanical element. In some examples, the apparatus may be used in various optical measurement and testing applications and environments. In some examples, the improved coupling link may also utilize an axial preloading technique to minimize excessive movement in bearings assemblies.
FIELD SPECTRAL RADIOMETERS INCLUDING CALIBRATION ASSEMBLIES
A field spectral radiometer includes a support structure and a remote sensing head disposed on the support structure. The remote sensing head includes a central axis, a first optical element disposed on a first side of the central axis and defining a first optical path for a first optical channel, and a second optical element disposed on a second side of the central axis and defining second optical path for a second optical channel. An instrumentation assembly disposed on the support structure. the instrumentation assembly includes a first detection path associated with the first optical channel and a second detection path associated with the second optical channel, the first and second detection path include optical indexers for manipulating the first and second optical channels. The field spectral radiometer may include a calibration assembly disposed on the base. The calibration assembly may include a calibrating light source for calibrating the remote sensing head.
HANDHELD NON-CONTACT MULTISPECTRAL MEASUREMENT DEVICE WITH POSITION CORRECTION
A non-contact multispectral measurement device for measuring reflectance properties of a surface of interest may include a multispectral measurement system, a position measurement system for measuring position values of the multispectral measurement system relative to the surface of interest, and means to correct multispectral values from the multispectral measurement system based on detected position values from the position measurement system. In some embodiments the multispectral measurement system is configured with a retro-reflection measurement geometry, where the illumination light path and observation light path are inclined with respect to a surface normal of the surface of interest to reduce detection of gloss or surface reflections while obtaining multispectral values. The position measurement system may be selected from the group consisting of: a pattern projector and a camera, a camera autofocus system, a stereo vision system, a laser range finder, and a time of flight distance sensor.
