A thermocouple apparatus including a one-piece connector with a terminal header portion that defines a pair of openings on a front end, and a clam shell portion including a cap and a base connected on one side with a hinge to the cap. A pair of terminals are partially disposed within the pair of openings defined by the terminal header portion and extend into a cavity defined between the cap and the base. The pair of terminals may be a pair of prongs or may be a pair of receptacles. A pair of leads from a probe or a pair of leads that are part of an electrical connection to temperature measurement equipment extend through a lead wire opening and into the cavity. The cap clamps each one of the leads to one of the pair of terminals when the cap is in the closed position.

ISOLATED TEMPERATURE SENSING FOR HEMS CONTACTS

A method of detecting temperature of an electrical terminal. The method includes: applying a material patch to a surface of the electrical terminal, the thermal mass of the material patch is less than 25 percent of the thermal mass of the electrical terminal, whereby the material patch does not appreciably increase the electrical resistance or thermal capacitance of the electrical terminal; and remotely sensing a change in the material patch with an electrically isolated circuit which is external to the electrical terminal to determine if the electrical terminal is operating at a safe temperature to optimize current flow across the electrical terminal.

The present invention relates to a high-temperature thermocouple with a thermocouple wire including two dissimilar wires twisted together and covered with a polyimide-based leak-proof insulation coating. The thermocouple wire may include a welded hot junction attaching the two dissimilar wires together on one end and may be connected to a thermocouple connector located at an opposite end. A method for making the high-temperature thermocouple may include coating a pair of dissimilar wires with a leak-proof polyimide-based insulation coating by dipping of dissimilar wires in a liquid polyimide-based solution and curing the dissimilar wires with heat. The method may also include twisting the dissimilar wires around themselves, welding together the dissimilar wires to each other creating a welded hot junction, and attaching the opposite end of the dissimilar wires to a thermocouple connector. The leak-proof insulation coating and thermocouple connector may be rated for 800 degrees F. and 150 PSI.

The first terminal region includes fine-tune (FT) metal stripes that are separated from each other by a first distance along the longitudinal direction. The second terminal region is spaced apart from the first terminal region by at least an inter-terminal distance. The second terminal region includes coarse-tune (CT) metal stripes that are separated from each other by a second distance along the longitudinal direction. The second distance is greater than the first distance, and the inter-terminal distance greater than the second distance. Each of the FT metal stripes may be selected as a first access location, and each of the CT metal stripes may be selected as a second access location. A pair of selected first and second access locations access a sheet resistance defined by a distance therebetween.
