Disclosed is a device for smoking tobacco, marijuana or the like. The device comprises a lower housing comprising a receptacle. The device further comprises a middle member engaged with the lower housing and a carrier member. The device further comprises a bowl member disposed within the carrier member. The device further comprises an upper housing engaged with the lower housing to form a storage area for the smoking material. The upper housing comprises an opening allowing access to open end portion of bowl member. The carrier member is rotatably engaged with the receptacle between a loading position where the open end of the bowl member is in communication with the storage area and a smoking position where the open end portion of the bowl member faces the opening of the upper housing thereby allowing any smoking material in the bowl member to be ignited.

A ratio between the total aperture area of the ventilation opening and a transverse cross-sectional area of the aerosol conduit positioned proximate to the ventilation opening is at most 1:1000. Applying a negative pressure at the head space outlet causes airflow through the aerosol conduit from the proximal opening to the distal opening and causes airflow through the aerosol conduit from the ventilation opening to the distal opening.

The aerosol conduit comprises a proximal end portion defining a proximal opening (24) positioned to receive airflow from the aerosol-generating element, a distal end portion defining a distal opening (26) positioned in the interior of the vessel, and a ventilation opening (30) positioned between the proximal and distal end portions. A ratio between the total aperture area of the ventilation opening and a transverse cross-sectional area of the aerosol conduit positioned proximate to the ventilation opening is at most 1:1000. Applying a negative pressure at the head space outlet causes airflow through the aerosol conduit from the proximal opening to the distal opening and causes airflow through the aerosol conduit from the ventilation opening to the distal opening.

A heating bowl comprising an outer wall and an inner wall which define a chamber. The inner wall has a side portion, a bottom portion and a top portion which connects the inner all with the outer wall which define a cavity. An extension can protrude from the bottom portion of the inner wall. The extension and the inner wall comprise a plurality of holes which connect the cavity with the chamber. The number and placement of holes allow the user to get a better draw of smoke with each inhalation, and thus, a better smoking experience.

The smoking chamber may house a manifold member which clamps the burn plate against an inner ledge. A user places smoking material on the burn plate and closes the smoking chamber with the lid. While applying a lighter flame directed into the lateral throughbore to the underside of the burn plate, the user applies suction to the lower inhalation passageway which pulls air in through the air inlet in the lid. Combustion of the smoking material creates smoke which is ported through the smoking device to the user without pulling in any of the gases from the lighter flame.
