The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for measuring particle concentrations in an aerosol. The apparatus comprises means (103) for driving flow (105) into apparatus (101), means (115) for electrically charging particles (109) to become electrically charged particles (123) by ions (113) produced by a charger, means (117) for removing free ions (113) which are not attached to the electrically charged particles (123), and means (119) for measuring electrical current carried by the electrically charged particles (123). The means (115) for charging the particles and the means (119) for measuring electrical current carried by the electrically charged particles (123) are dimensioned such that the means (119) for measuring electrical current carried by the electrically charged particles (123) only measures a part of a total current carried by the particles.

A method for measuring the concentration of a micro/nano particle, including: allowing the to-be-measured micro/nano particle to bind with one or more kinds of marker to form a new particle, the new particle having a change in at least one of particle size, charge state, and particle morphology compared with the to-be-measured micro/nano particle or the marker; measuring the particle size, charge state, or particle morphology of the new particle and the to-be-measured micro/nano particle or the marker, and counting the new particle and the to-be-measured micro/nano particle or the marker respectively to obtain their respective count results, and, on the basis of the count results, calculating the concentration of the to-be-measured micro/nano particle bound with the marker. The method of the present application has the advantages of high measurement accuracy, low measurement limit, and stability of chemical reagents.

SOOT SENSOR SYSTEM

A soot sensing system includes a soot sensor having a first element, and circuitry to an amount of soot accumulated on the element and to control heating of the element in response to the soot accumulation. An electrostatic repelling voltage (ERV) may be applied to a sensor/heater element(s) during a contamination prevention mode (CPM) to repel ash and reduce contamination of the sensor. A pulsed heating voltage (PHV) may be applied to the elements during the CPM and a pulsed ERV may be applied to the elements during the “off” period of the PHV. All voltage to the elements may be turned off during the CPM and the elements may be floating/ground. A PHV may be applied to the elements during the CPM and no voltage may be applied to the elements during the “off” period of the PHV. A heating voltage may be applied to the elements during a CPM corresponding to a cold start.

Examples herein provide a device. The device includes a sample delivery component, which includes: a reagent chamber to contain at least one reagent; a sample chamber to contain a fluid sample; and a delivery channel extending from the reagent chamber and in fluid communication with the sample chamber and an output port, wherein the delivery channel is conducive mixing the at least one reagent and the fluid sample to form a mixture before the mixture reaches the output port and be discharged therefrom. The device includes a testing cassette detachable from the delivery component, which includes: an input port in fluid communication with a microfluidic reservoir, the input port to receive the discharged fluid sample from the output port; and a micro-fabricated integrated sensor in a microfluidic channel extending from the microfluidic reservoir.

The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for cleaning a 3D printed article, in particular a 3D printed heat exchanger. After 3D printing, an article may have internal passages formed from bonded powder and said passages may contain unbonded powder that needs to be removed before further use of/processing of the article. To remove this unbonded powder, the article is filled with a cleaning fluid and vibrated. The cleaning fluid is then pumped out of the article and past a sensor that generates a magnetic field. The sensor detects the presence of powder particles in the fluid by detecting a perturbation of the magnetic field caused by said particles. The fluid is then filtered and returned to a reservoir for use. The sensor may indicate the article is sufficiently clean when a detected concentration of particles in the fluid drops below a threshold.

The detection device makes it possible, in particular, to count the number of particles flowing through the lubrication circuit and/or the flow rate of the particles. Comparing that number or that flow rate with a first threshold makes it possible to determine a risk of damage affecting the mechanical system and to anticipate the maintenance or reinforced monitoring operations that possibly need to be performed.

Electromagnetic fluid filter using magnetostrictive sensors

In at least one illustrative embodiment, an electromagnetic filter may include a transfer pipe and multiple electromagnetic filter elements positioned in an interior volume of the pipe. Each electromagnetic filter element includes a support comb, a solenoid coupled to the support comb, and multiple magnetic members arranged in a planar array positioned within an opening of the support comb. Each magnetic member may rotate about an end that is coupled to the support comb. The magnetic members may be magnetostrictive sensors and may include a biorecognition element to bind with a target microorganism. A method for fluid filtration includes coupling the electromagnetic filter between a fluid source and a fluid destination, energizing the solenoids of each electromagnetic filter elements, and flowing a fluid media through the transfer pipe of the electromagnetic filter. The fluid media may be liquid food such as fruit juice. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
