Window contamination sensor
11644411 · 2023-05-09 · ·

A contamination sensor for an optical sensor observation window includes a source, two prisms, a detector, and a controller. The source can emit a collimated light beam at an incident angle that is greater than a critical angle of an interface between a fluid and the window. The window has a refractive index greater than the refractive index of the fluid. The prisms can direct the collimated light beam within the window such that the collimated light beam reflects within a contamination detection zone of the window. The detector can receive the collimated light beam. The controller can communicate with the source and detector. The controller can calculate an emission/detection ratio defined by a difference between an amount of light emitted by the source and an amount of light that passes from the source to the detector by a total internal reflectance of the window.

Nephelometric turbidimeter and method for detection of the contamination of a sample cuvette of a nephelometric turbidimeter

A nephelometric turbidimeter for measuring a turbidity of a liquid sample in a sample cuvette. The nephelometric turbidimeter includes a measurement light source configured to emit an axial parallel light beam directed to the sample cuvette, a scattering light detector arranged to receive a scattered light from the sample cuvette, and a diffuser comprising a diffuser body and a diffuser actuator. The diffuser actuator is configured to move the diffuser body between a parking position in which the diffuser body does not interfere with the axial parallel light beam and a test position where the diffuser body is arranged between the measurement light source and the sample cuvette so that the diffuser body interferes with the axial parallel light beam and generates a diffuse test light entering the sample cuvette.

Isolation of fluid sample in multi-pass optical system

Implementations are described herein for isolating mirrors and/or other potentially-vulnerable components of multi-pass optical systems from samples being analyzed, while mitigating interference and/or reduction in optical power. In one implementation, an apparatus may include: an optical cell with one or more passages, the one or more passages provided for introducing a sample into an interior of the optical cell for analysis and for removing the sample from the interior; a first mirror with a first reflective surface that faces the interior of the optical cell; one or more additional mirrors with one or more corresponding additional reflective surfaces that face the first reflective surface of the first mirror; and a wedge-shaped optical element positioned between the first mirror and the interior of the optical cell.

Combustion Gas Sensor Assembly for Engine Control
20170363513 · 2017-12-21 ·

An optical sensor for sensing combustion products avoids fouling and damage to optical components by using a “windowless” design in which an air curtain through an orifice provides a constantly refreshing transparent shield protecting the optical components from corrosive combustion gases and resisting the accumulation of particulates that might otherwise foul a static window.

METHOD FOR QUANTITATIVELY AND QUALITATIVELY DETECTING PARTICLES IN LIQUID

A method for the quantitative and/or qualitative detection of particles in fluid, with which the fluid to be examined is introduced into a beam path of an optical device, between at least one light source and the image acquisition sensor with a matrix of light-sensitive cells. Pixel values of the cells are detected and the distribution of the pixel values is at least partly determined. The pixel value or values which have been determined most often are used as a value or average value for a background signal. A signal is outputted or the method is interrupted, on reaching a maximal permissible value for the background signal.
