Method for optically detecting biomarkers

A method for optically detecting biomarkers in a biosensor is disclosed, wherein the optical detection obtains spatially and spectrally resolved optical signals from a sample on a biosensor, and one or more of these spatially and spectrally resolved optical signals can be analyzed in parallel with image acquisition. The image analysis comprises reading data of the acquired images, correcting them to reduce inhomogeneities and noise, localizing particles in the images, characterizing each particle individually to obtain its position and characterization parameters, and classifying the particles based on their characterization parameters. Using the number of particles per class for all the acquired images of the sample, a statistical value is calculated per sample and each statistical value is correlated with an indication of the presence of a biomarker in the sample.

ACCOUNTING FOR ERRORS IN OPTICAL MEASUREMENTS

Apparatus and methods are described including placing at least a portion of a blood sample within a sample chamber (52), and acquiring microscopic images of the portion of the blood sample. Candidates of a given entity within the blood sample are identified, within the microscopic image. At least some of the candidates as being the given entity are validated, by performing further analysis of the candidates. A count of the candidates of the given entity is compared to a count of the validated candidates of the given entity, and at least the portion of the sample is invalidated from being used for performing at least some measurements upon the sample, at least partially based upon a relationship between the count of candidates and the count of validated candidates. Other applications are also described.

Multivariate statistical contamination prediction using multiple sensors or data streams

Systems and methods for performing a contamination estimation of a downhole sample including at least a formation fluid and a filtrate are provided. A plurality of downhole signals are obtained from the downhole sample and one or more of the signals are conditioned. At least two of the conditioned signals or downhole signals are fused into a multivariate dataset. A principle component analysis (PCA) is performed on the fused multivariate dataset to determine optical and density properties of the formation fluid. Based on at least the PCA, optical and density properties of the filtrate are determined. From the optical and density properties of the formation fluid and of the filtrate, a multivariate calculation is performed to generate concentration profiles of the formation fluid and the filtrate.
