MICROFLUIDIC DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS
A microfluidic device includes a microfluidic substrate having a porous media channel, an oil inlet port in fluid communication with the porous media channel, a fluid inlet port in fluid communication with the porous media channel, and an outlet port in fluid communication with the porous media channel. The porous media channel has a plurality of dividers that provide the porous media channel with a network of fluid pathways. A method for assessing miscibility of an oil composition and a fluid includes flowing an aliquot of a fluid through a porous media channel to displace at least an oil composition from the porous media channel, and conducting an optical investigation of the porous media channel to assess the miscibility of the oil composition and the fluid at the test pressure and test temperature.
Degradable tags for depth correlation mud logging
Degradable polymer additives are provided. The degradable polymer additives include a tracer functional group that is bonded to a base polymeric component by a hydrolysable covalent bond. The base polymeric component is a polysaccharide. The tracer functional group is selected from the group comprising a halogen-containing functional group, a substituted heterocyclic aromatic group, and combination thereof. A method utilizing the degradable polymeric additives in an altered drilling fluid is provided. Such a method includes introducing the altered drilling fluid into a wellbore and recovering an associated wellbore cutting from a depleted drilling fluid.
PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES FOR ANALYZING OCTANE CONTENT
Products and processes are provided herewith for analyzing octane content in a fuel sample that include the step or steps of receiving an octane measurement of a fuel sample from an octane analyzer, rounding the octane measurement to a nearest recognized octane rating, comparing the rounded octane measurement with a listed octane rating for the fuel sample, and communicating results of the comparison to a user of the octane analyzer. The octane analyzer may be incorporated into a fuel pump or a vehicle. The results of the comparison may also be used to adjust the vehicle operating parameters to account for the actual octane rating of the fuel dispensed into the vehicle.
Methods and Means for Identifying Fluid Type Inside a Conduit
An x-ray-based borehole fluid evaluation tool for evaluating the characteristics of a fluid located external to said tool in a borehole using x-ray backscatter imaging is disclosed, the tool including at least an x-ray source; a radiation shield to define the output faun of the produced x-rays into the borehole fluid outside of the tool housing; at least one collimated imaging detector to record x-ray backscatter images; sonde-dependent electronics; and a plurality of tool logic electronics and power supply units. A method of using an x-ray-based borehole fluid evaluation tool to evaluate the characteristics of a fluid through x-ray backscatter imaging is also disclosed, the method including at least producing x-rays in a shaped output; measuring the intensity of backscatter x-rays returning from the fluid to each pixel of one or more array imaging detectors; and converting intensity data from said pixels into characteristics of the wellbore fluids.
Method for detecting oil on tobacco products and packaging
A process for detecting oil or lubricant contamination in a manufactured product, the process comprising adding at least two fluorescent taggants to oils or lubricants contained in processing machinery for said product, irradiating said product, causing at least one of said taggants to fluoresce and detecting radiation emitted by said fluorescing taggant in an oil-contaminated product.

Method for measuring multiple parameters of drilling fluid
A method and apparatus for measuring multiple parameters of drilling fluid using electric field perturbation, permittivity curves, time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis to identify constituents of drilling fluid and ratios of the drilling fluid constituents on a real time basis and to measure volumes and densities of the constituents on a real time basis.
Magnetic chip detector and method of use
The magnetic chip detector system can have a first conductor member and a second conductor member both exposed to a liquid flow path and separated from one another by gap, each one of the conductor members having a magnetic field oriented into the liquid flow path, at least a first one of the magnetic fields being actively modifiable; an electrical energy source configured to induce a current circulation across the gap; and a meter configured to measure a response of the gap to the induced current circulation.
Methods and systems for correction of oil-based mud filtrate contamination on saturation pressure
Embodiments of the disclosure can include systems, methods, and devices for determining saturation pressure of an uncontaminated fluid. Downhole saturation pressure measurements and downhole OBM filtrate contamination of a contaminated fluid may be obtained and a relationship may be determined between the saturation pressure measurements and OBM filtrate contamination. The relationship may be extrapolated to zero OBM filtrate contamination to determine the saturation pressure of the uncontaminated fluid. In some embodiments, OBM filtrate contamination may be determined from downhole saturation pressure measurements during pumpout of a fluid.
Method and a system for monitoring a lubricated mechanical system
A method and a system for monitoring a mechanical system, the mechanical system including a lubrication system provided with a reservoir containing a lubricating liquid, with a lubrication circuit designed to lubricate the mechanical system, as well as with a particle detection device arranged in the lubrication circuit. The detection device makes it possible, in particular, to count the number of particles flowing through the lubrication circuit and/or the flow rate of the particles. Comparing that number or that flow rate with a first threshold makes it possible to determine a risk of damage affecting the mechanical system and to anticipate the maintenance or reinforced monitoring operations that possibly need to be performed.
