A solution for measuring a suspension which contains wood fibres. The consistency of the suspension is changed in a consistency range. Optical radiation is directed at the suspension and the intensity of optical radiation interacted with the suspension is measured at different consistencies in the consistency range. The maximum intensity of the optical radiation is determined within the consistency range. At least one of the following properties of the suspension are determined based on the determined maximum intensity: kappa number, brightness.
Optical determination of anionic charge in a process stream
The present invention concerns a method of optical measurement of an aqueous stream, and of processing the results of the measurement in order to determine the anionic charge of the stream, the method being carried out by measuring the light absorption of the stream and predicting the amount of anionic groups in the stream using a mathematical processing, such as mathematical calculations. Particularly, the method includes the steps of adding an amount of a cationic dye to the aqueous stream, measuring the light absorption spectra of the obtained dye-containing stream, and processing the obtained light absorption spectrum using said mathematical processing in order to obtain the anionic charge. The invention also concerns the use of the obtained spectrum in determining the turbidity of the stream, as well as a device suitable for use in carrying out the method.

METHOD FOR EVALUATING CELLULOSE NANOFIBER DISPERSION
Herein provided are methods for evaluating cellulose nanofiber dispersions, comprising the steps of: (1) preparing a cellulose nanofiber dispersion; (2) adding a color material into the cellulose nanofiber dispersion; and (3) observing the cellulose nanofiber dispersion to which a colored pigment has been added with a light microscope. The methods allow for easy evaluation of whether or not agglomerates of cellulose nanofibers exist in cellulose nanofiber dispersions, which cannot be visually determined.
Estimating risk level in an aqueous process
Estimating or predicting runnability or end product quality risk level for a pulp or papermaking process is disclosed. The method includes measuring hydrophobicity values of samples originating from a same aqueous process stream. A hydrophobicity measurement signal is produced of measured hydrophobicity values as a function of time. A risk level is calculated for the process. At least one mathematical index is calculated based on the hydrophobicity measurement signal, and optionally based on the amount of particles in the sample, other property of the aqueous stream and/or production data. The mathematical index and optionally the amount of the particles, other property, and/or production data is used as a risk indicator input in the calculation. Based on the risk level calculated for the pulp or papermaking process, the runnability and/or end product quality risk level for the pulp or papermaking process is indicated.

A method for chemical pulp production in a multi-stage process, comprising a first process stage, comprising a woodyard comprising steps such as debarking, chipping, pile storage and/or reclaim; a second process stage, comprising a fiberline comprising steps such as cooking and/or bleaching; and at least a third process stage; wherein a first set of data is gathered at least at the first and at the second process stage, wherein the first set of data for each process stage comprises measurement results and/or parameters calculated based on measurement results, wherein the measurements and/or parameters are related to raw material, equipment, process measurements and/or product properties; the first set of data is sent to the subsequent process stage, wherein the process steps of the subsequent process stage are adjusted based on the first set of data received; a second set of data is gathered at least at the second and at the third process stage, wherein the second set of data for each process stage comprises information related to availability of processing capacity, predicted availability of processing capacity and/or required material flow or quality; the second set of data is sent to the preceding process stage, wherein the process steps of the preceding process stage are adjusted based on the second set of data received.

Online method to determine quality standards for incoming wood chips to a papermill
A computer implemented method is disclosed herein for monitoring and determining a quality level of incoming raw material from one or more sources. The method includes (1) receiving visual data associated with the incoming raw material; (2) determining an indication of quality level associated with the incoming raw material; and (3) transmitting, to at least one of a graphical user interface (GUI) and a computer log, the indication of quality level and at least one timestamp associated with the visual data. The visual data may include a plurality of images received from one or more cameras configured for monitoring the incoming raw material. A related system is also disclosed herein.
