Slide storage, retrieval, transfer, and scanning system for a slide scanner
A slide storage, retrieval, transfer and scanning system for a slide scanner presents multiple components which work together in an automated fashion to streamline slide scanning in digital pathology. A slide storage assembly stores several slide baskets and can deliver a particular basket through a rotation mechanism. A slide basket transfer assembly retrieves the basket from the slide storage assembly and transfers the basket to a secondary location, where a slide transfer assembly retrieves a single slide from the basket and delivers the slide to a slide scanning stage for scanning.
SAFETY LIGHT CURTAIN TO DISABLE CAROUSEL ROTATION
A digital slide scanning apparatus includes a safety light curtain that operates to disable the motor that rotates the carousel when the presence of an object (e.g., the fingers of an operator) is detected within a predetermined area of the carousel. The light curtain also operates to disable the motor that rotates the carousel when an improperly positioned glass slide or slide rack is detected. The digital slide scanning apparatus also includes a multi-color status indicator for each rack slot that indicates the rack slot location of an improperly positioned glass slide or slide rack.
BENCHTOP INSTRUMENT AND CONSUMABLES FOR SAMPLE DEPOSITION AND STAINING
An apparatus for depositing and staining a cellular sample, includes a slide processing module comprising a specimen input port (SIP) dock configured to receive a SIP consumable comprising the cellular sample, and position the SIP consumable such that a spray nozzle of the SIP consumable and an air nozzle of the slide processing module are aligned prior to a deposition operation, and a user interface configured receive an input from a user that configures the deposition operation and a staining operation, and an auxiliary systems module, coupled to the slide processing module, comprising a chassis including a removable storage container configured to hold a plurality of bottles comprising one or more of a reagent, a buffer solution, or an ethanol-based fixative, and an electronics subsystem configured to execute, based on the input from the user, a pre-programmed protocol for the deposition operation and the staining operation.
