Consumption Breakdown Monitoring Through Power State Sensing
Systems and methods are provided for estimating power breakdowns for a set of one or more appliances inside a building by exploiting a small number of power meters and data indicative of binary power states of individual appliances of such set. In one aspect, a breakdown estimation problem is solved within a tree configuration, and utilizing a single power meter and data indicative of binary power states of a plurality of appliances. Based at least in part on such solution, an estimation quality metric is derived. In another aspect, such metric can be exploited in a methodology for optimally placing additional power meters to increase the estimation certainty for individual appliances to a desired or intended level. Estimated power breakdown and energy breakdownindividually or collectively referred to as consumption breakdownrely on measurements and numerical simulations, and can be evaluated in exemplary electrical network utilizing binary sensors.
UTILITY MONITORING DEVICE, SYSTEM AND METHOD
A monitoring device, system and method are provided for in-home/on-premises monitoring of usage of utilities, such as electricity and other services. The monitoring device receives information from a smart meter, and displays usage through a display, illuminating an area using a colour indicative of the current cost of consumption, and varying the illuminated area at a rate indicative of a rate of consumption or other metric, the varying of the illuminated area simulating movement in the display. The display provides a consumer with at a glance visual information on current usage. Optionally a digital display screen provides detailed alphanumeric and graphical information, through a number of selectable display modes. One or more devices may be networked, and interface directly or indirectly with a transceiver of a smart metering system, or a retrofit transceiver for a conventional meter. Monitoring of other utilities and services may alternatively or additionally be provided.
System and Method for Determination and Remediation of Energy Diversion in a Smart Grid Network
An apparatus, system and method are provided for detecting purposeful energy diversion in a smart grid network. A transformer monitoring device is configured to measure the amount of electricity supplied by a transformer to a plurality of structures and electric meters are configured to measure electricity usage at each of the plurality of structures. The electric meters transmit signaling containing information regarding measured electricity usage to the transformer monitoring device and the transformer monitoring device transmits signaling to a cloud-based server containing information regarding the amount of electricity supplied by the transformer to the plurality of structures and the measured electricity usage. The cloud-based server is configured to determine based on the received signaling if energy diversion is occurring in the smart grid network.
Method for Operating an Energy Consumption Metering System and Energy Consumption Metering System
A method for operating an energy consumption metering system is provided. The method includes determining a first value of energy consumption at a central supply point by a first energy consumption metering device, and determining a second value of energy consumption of a sub-location of the central supply point by a second energy consumption metering device. A deviation of the first value and the second value is determined and based on the determined deviation, calibration data for calibrating at least one of the first and the second energy consumption metering device is determined.
Energy Consumption Alerting System, Platform and Method
An energy consumption alerting system is provided. The system includes a plurality of sensors deployed at different locations of at least one monitored site, the sensors being able to provide location-specific energy consumption values. The system further includes a data aggregation facility so as to sum up location-specific energy consumption values associated with at least two corresponding predetermined sensors of the plurality of sensors to obtain an aggregated energy consumption value. The system further includes an alerting facility this is able to compare the aggregated energy consumption value with an user-defined threshold level and notify a user if the at least one aggregated energy consumption value exceeds the at least one user-defined threshold level. A cloud-based energy consumption alerting platform and an energy consumption alerting method are also provided.
ELECTRICITY LOAD DISAGGREGATION
A method of electricity load disaggregation may include identifying a first monitored appliance in an electrical network based on ON/OFF status information. The method may further include identifying a period of time during which the first monitored appliance is on. The method may also include determining whether a second monitored appliance is on during the period of time. The method may include allocating a first load of an aggregate load associated with the period of time to the first monitored appliance in response to determining that the second monitored appliance is not on during the period of time, or in response to determining that the second monitored appliance is on during the period of time, allocating a second load of the aggregate load to the first monitored appliance and allocating a third load of the aggregate load to the second monitored appliance.
APPARATUS AND METHOD OF MEASURING DATA IN HIGH VOLTAGE DIRECT CURRENT SYSTEM
A data measurement device in a high voltage direct current (HVDC) system is provided. The data measurement device includes: a power measurement unit measuring pieces of power related data; and a control unit determining measurement times at which the pieces of power related data are measured respectively, and performing control based on pieces of power related data having a same measurement time among the pieces of power related data.
Storm Confirmation and Path Prediction System
Disclosed are various embodiments for confirming a tornado event has contacted the ground surface and generating a path prediction. Upon receipt of power outage alarms from metering devices, the Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) application can generate cluster areas based on the location of the metering devices. The AMI application can compare cluster area to a tornado pattern to determine if the cluster area has experienced a tornado. AMI application can determine a speed and a direction of the tornado event based on the location and a time stamp associated with the metering devices in the cluster areas.
SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND DEVICES FOR GREENHOUSE GAS MONITORING AND CONTROL
Implementations described herein provide systems, methods, and devices for greenhouse gas monitoring and control. The systems, methods, and devices include a device detection system which identifies device identifier(s) corresponding to device(s) associated with a user. The device(s) include at least one of an electric vehicle, a home device, a power system device, or a power system device. Upon detecting the device(s), a user behavior analyzer receives energy consumption-related data from the device(s) resulting from energy consumption behavior of the user. The system determines, based on the energy consumption-related data, one or more behavior metrics of the user. A reduction integration generator identifies an energy consumption reduction integration corresponding to the one or more behavior metrics (e.g., a device operational parameter modification, a behavioral modification, a credit, and so forth), and integrates the energy consumption reduction integration to facilitate a reduction of energy consumption for the user.
ELECTRICITY METER ASSEMBLY FOR OPEN AND SHORT CIRCUIT DETECTION
The present invention relates to an electricity meter assembly including a sensor module to connect to an electrical system, a meter, and a removable expansion module. The sensor module receives voltage and current signals, generating corresponding measurement signals. The meter's measurement module processes these signals, generating energy consumption data and determining short and open circuit conditions. The removable expansion module, guided by the meter, produces a detection current of a specific frequency, distinct from the electrical system's signals. Also disclosed is a specific configuration of the removable expansion module, designed to attach to a power meter, with components for control, generation, and transmission of specific AC signals.
