FMCW automotive radar incorporating modified slow time processing of fine range-doppler data
A novel and useful system and method by which radar angle and range resolution are significantly improved without increasing complexity in critical hardware parts. A multi-pulse methodology is described in which each pulse contains partial angular and range information consisting of a portion of the total CPI bandwidth, termed multiband chirp. Each chirp has significantly reduced fractional bandwidth relative to monoband processing. Each chirp contains angular information that fills only a portion of the ‘virtual array’, while the full virtual array information is contained across the CPI. This is done using only a single transmission antenna per pulse, thus significantly simplifying MIMO hardware realization, referred to as antenna-multiplexing (AM). Techniques for generating the multiband chirps as well as receiving and generating improved fine range-Doppler data maps. A windowing technique deployed in the transmitter as opposed to the receiver is also disclosed.
Processing radar signals
A method for processing a radar signal is provided. The method may include receiving chirps of a radar signal, sampling the radar signal, dividing the samples that correspond to the chirp of the radar signal into at least two virtual chirps, and processing the radar signal based on the at least two virtual chirps. Also, a corresponding device is provided.
RFID tag location and association of RFID tags
An RFID detector suitable for use in a passive RFID tag system that employs frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) operation obtains an indication of at least one characteristic of a CW RF signal employing a hopped-to carrier frequency that is being transmitted from an RFID tag reader, e.g., for use in activating the RFID tag to be located, the indication of the characteristic being obtained based on a signal that is received from a source other than the RFID detector. The RFID detector may use the obtained indication of the characteristic of the CW RF signal to determine at least one position related parameter for the RFID tag. A location, e.g., of the tag, of a group of tags, of the RFID detector, or of another RFID detector, may be determined based on the position parameter.
DISCONTINUOUS RADAR TRANSMISSION FOR INTERFERENCE MITIGATION
A radar transceiver (400) including a transmit branch (450, 455, TX) arranged to transmit a radar signal at a frequency F(t), and a receive branch (RX, 405, 410, 420, 430, 460) arranged to receive a radar signal, wherein the receive branch comprises an interference monitoring circuit (430) configured to monitor frequencies adjacent to the frequency F(t) for interference, and to generate a control signal (440) if interference is detected at the adjacent frequencies, wherein the transmit branch is arranged to be paused in response to the control signal (440).
FAILURE DETECTION APPARATUS AND RADAR APPARATUS WITH FAILURE DETECTION APPARATUS
A conventional millimeter wave radar cannot detect a failure when there is not satisfied the condition that a road exists in front of a vehicle or that in two or more radar apparatuses, a leakage electric wave from another radar can be detected. A failure detection apparatus according to the present disclosure calculates reception power values from a reception processing signal for each antenna and compares the reception power value with a reference power value determined by a reference power calculation unit so as to perform a failure determination. There is provided a failure determination unit that compares the reference power value for a failure determination with the power value obtained from a reception processing signal outputted from each of receivers so as to perform a failure determination for each of the receivers.
Multi-radar coexistence using slow rate interference identification and suppression
Certain aspects provide a method for radar detection by an apparatus. The method generally includes transmitting a radar waveform in sets of transmission time intervals (TTIs), using a common set of radar transmission parameters in each set of TTIs, to perform detection of a target object, varying at least one of the common set of radar transmission parameters between sets of TTIs, and identifying interfering signals based on observed changes in monitored parameters of received signals across sets of TTIs due to the varying.
Methods for radar coexistence
A method and apparatus for selecting frequency modulated continuous wave waveform parameters for multiple radar coexistence by a user equipment is described. The user equipment may transmit a radar waveform consisting of a number of chirps, with each chirp having a same duration. The user equipment may vary waveform parameters of the radar waveform for at least a subset of the number of chirp, where the waveform parameters may be chosen from a codebook comprising at least one codeword of parameters. Reflected radar waveforms are received and processed where the processing includes applying a fast time discrete Fourier transform to reflected radar waveforms to produce a one dimension peak in a time delay dimension for each reflected waveform; and applying a slow time discrete Fourier transform to the reflected radar waveforms, where peaks for the reflected waveforms are added.
PHASE BASED SEARCH PROCEDURE FOR RADAR DETECTION
In some aspects, a radar device may receive a received signal comprising a reflected frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar signal and interference. The radar device may identify the reflected FMCW radar signal based at least in part on performing a phase based search procedure to facilitate removing the interference from the received signal. The radar device may perform an action based at least in part on a characteristic of the identified reflected FMCW radar signal. Numerous other aspects are described.
Radio frequency identification (RFID) system for determining location
A system and bent-pipe transponder component for determining a location of an individual or object in three dimensional space. The system includes a transmitter configured to transmit a first wireless electromagnetic signal at a first frequency and at least one transponder that is configured to responsively emit a second wireless electromagnetic signal having a second frequency that is frequency-shifted from the first frequency. An included receiver detecting the first and second wireless electromagnetic signals is configured to provide an output of location information for the at least one transponder. A bent-pipe transponder component may include a receiving antenna, an emitting antenna, and a frequency shift stage comprising an oscillator and a first mixer, with the frequency stage mixing a received first wireless electromagnetic signal with the output of the oscillator via the first mixer to produce the emitted second wireless electromagnetic signal.
FMCW RADAR
A radar system and a corresponding method for a radar system are described herein. In accordance with one example, the method includes receiving—via a first RF port of a coupler—an antenna signal from an antenna, receiving—with an auxiliary receiver—a representation of the antenna signal via a second RF port of the coupler, and generating—with the auxiliary receiver—an auxiliary base-band signal from the representation of the antenna signal. Based on the auxiliary base-band signal, an external radar interference signal transmitted from an external radar device incident at the antenna is detected.
