Marine sonar display device with operating mode determination
A marine sonar display device comprises a display, a sonar element, a multi axis sensor, a memory element, and a processing element. The display presents sonar images. The sonar element generates a sonar beam. The multi axis sensor determines an orientation and a tilt of the sonar element and present a sensor signal indicating the orientation and the tilt. The processing element is in communication with the display, the sonar element, the multi axis sensor, and the memory element. The processing element further determines an operating mode of the marine sonar display device, wherein the operating mode varying according to the orientation and the tilt of the sonar element.
ANALOG ULTRASOUND BEAMFORMER
A sampled analog beamformer for ultrasound beamforming includes an array of transducers for transmitting analog signals and receiving reflected analog signals, and a sampled analog filter for filtering the received reflected analog. The sampled analog filter includes a delay line for adding a delay to each of the received reflected analog signals. Using a sampled analog filter in an ultrasound beamforming system reduces the power usage of the system and decreases the number of components in the system.
Autonomous Vehicle Navigation System and Method
An autonomous vehicle is improved with a navigational system having both cameras and echolocation sensors, each including overlapping fields of view. The cameras and echolocation sensors may be part of an optical and echolocation system, respectively, that may work in conjunction with a global positioning system to determine a course for the autonomous vehicle to reach an objective while detecting and avoid obstacles along the course.
Systems and methods for ultrasonic position and motion detection
The present disclosure provides systems and methods associated with determining position and/or movement information using ultrasound. A system may include one or more ultrasonic transmitters and/or receivers. An ultrasonic transmitter may be configured to transmit ultrasound into a region bounded by one or more surfaces. The ultrasonic receiver may receive direct ultrasonic reflections and/or rebounded ultrasonic reflections from one or more objects within the region. A mapping or positioning system may generate positional data associated with one or more of the object(s) based on the direct ultrasonic reflection(s) and/or the rebounded ultrasonic reflection(s). The mapping or positioning system may generate enhanced positional data by combining the direct positional data and the rebounded positional data.
ADAPTIVE BEAMFORMER FOR SONAR IMAGING
Provided are method, system, and computer program product for imaging an underwater environment. The method may include receiving sonar returns and converting the sound energy of the sonar returns into sonar return data, and generating first beam data associated with a first beam having at least one first main lobe oriented in a first direction. Generating the first beam data may include: forming the sonar return data in the first direction; applying a first predetermined window to the sonar return data to define a first weighted return data; applying a second predetermined window to the sonar return data to define a second weighted return data; comparing a first power of the first weighted return data to a second power of the second weighted return data; and defining, when the first power is less than the second power, the first beam data based upon the first weighted return data.
MULTICHANNEL SONAR SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Techniques are disclosed for systems and methods to provide accurate and compact multichannel sonar systems for mobile structures. A compact multichannel sonar system includes a multichannel transducer and associated processing and control electronics and optionally orientation and/or position sensors disposed substantially within the housing of a sonar transducer assembly. The multichannel transducer includes multiple transmission and/or receive channels/transducer elements. The transducer assembly is configured to support and protect the multichannel transducer and associated electronics and sensors, to physically and/or adjustably couple to a mobile structure, and/or to provide a simplified interface to other systems coupled to the mobile structure. The system may additionally include an actuator configured to adjust an orientation of the transducer assembly. Resulting sonar data and/or imagery may be displayed to a user and/or used to adjust a steering actuator, a propulsion system thrust, and/or other operational systems of the mobile structure.
Apparatus, system and method to compound signals of respective received ultrasonic frequencies to generate an output ultrasonic image
An apparatus, a method, and computer-implemented media. The apparatus is to receive, simultaneously, electrical signals based on respective reflected frequencies of a reflected ultrasonic waveform reflected from a target object as a result of a transmitted ultrasonic waveform; compound information from the electrical signals to generate compounded electrical signals; and cause generation of an output image on a display based on the compounded electrical signals.
TRANSDUCER WITH IMPROVED VELOCITY ESTIMATION ACCURACY SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A sonar system and method for measuring relative velocity between a transducer and a scattering surface or volume is disclosed. The system utilizes phased array or piston transducers that project acoustic beams in different directions. Each projection consists of multiple sub-waveforms of different center frequencies that are either frequency steered into different directions such that the acoustic beams ensonify different scatterers or sufficiently separated in frequency to obtain independent estimates of velocity. Each received return signal is used to estimate an independent relative velocity between the transducer and scatterers, and the estimated velocities are averaged to reduce the single-ping standard deviation of the velocity error. Different lags may be used in the different sub-waveforms, wherein shorter lags are used to ambiguity resolve longer lags such that the system ambiguity velocity is sufficiently high, and the single-ping variance decreases below what would be possible when only using a short lag.

SMALL APERTURE ACOUSTIC VELOCITY SENSOR
A small aperture acoustic velocity sensor and a method for velocity measurement are disclosed. In one aspect, the disclosed technology uses spatially-shifted sub-arrays for projection and/or hydrophone receipt and cross-correlation of successive pulses to improve correlation and reduce bias. The spatial shift can be created physically by selection of groups of elements or virtually by weighting the contributions of fixed sub-arrays. Spatial modulation can be used to form a projected signal and measured spatial phase of slope across the set of sub-arrays allows correction of both long- and short-term errors. The disclosed technology uses spatial and/or temporal interpolation.
